wow...I thought I was lazy

Being a newbie to the site let me just say thanks. It's great to find some people who have got the ability and desire to do their own work.

From what I can gleam from the mental deficient that began this thread is that he found this site way too late and now all of his neglect has killed a perfectly good truck. I'm in my mid 20's and on my second ford (first was pretty 97' killed by a soccer mom with lapsed insurance). Now I realize that I know virtually nothing when it comes to my baby mechanically. However that is the reason I am here...to learn from those before me and to pass that knowledge (and love) to continue the legacy of the blue oval. Untill two weeks ago I couldn't even change my brake pads.

Now I've yanked the rear diff out just to clean it up a little and successfully got it back it and working wonderfully (a major feat for me thus far). I look forward to my next task, but it is unfortunate that this punk couldn't at least respect the fact that he was leaving a site dedicated to the glorification of a very respectable truck.

Thanks guys. You have all been very kind to my ignorance, even with the hand-holding

Bowties died with the pompador (no getting offended, it's a joke)

Next up was a Dodge Ram Quad Cab and the motor started tapping at bout 50k and it began to rattle. I sold it and got the 03 Screw that I have now. If it holds up then it will be the best out of the three. Dont know if I will keep it as long as I kept the Chevy but so far I am impressed with the truck. It is the most powerful and fastest of the three. I take care of my vehicles and why the Dodge started tapping on me I dont know. I dont think it was due to neglect on my part. I am 2 out of 3 so that aint bad.
My first truck was a dodge with a ford bed on it circa1980.
We called it a Fraud. Sure was hard to get a date with that truck.
But it had a 318 that ran like a bat outta hell! I could bark the tires any day any time for any reason! Many years later I got a good deal on 85 Ramcharger with 9 inchs of lift and "40 super swampers it had a built 360 in it with full floating posi!Dane 60s front and rear.
I love my Fords but that dodge would run over and through any thing the fords would get stuck in.
I was looking at a mopar to put in it whenI gave it to my cousin.

Since my wife is German, it's German cars for her and Ford Truck for me.

Now if one of the German companies would make a real truck...
Yes and no. The 454 was and always will be a bulldog, hard charging, powerhouse of a motor, no argument. The 350 as well as the 327 will always be sitting high on a pedestal as the test beds of hi-perf parts in the 20th century. Without them, and Vic Edelbrock, Mickey Thompson, Big Daddy, Don, Jocko Johnson, Grumpy Jenkins and others, Autotronics, Offenhauser, Holley, Weiand and Carter, we would be decades behind where we are now in the performance ring.
In the mid 80's, Ford decided after 15 years to pull their head out of their rearend and start offering "Hi-Po" parts once again. Once word got out (took about 3 years) that Ford was backing performance items, the aftermarket answered and the 5.0L hasn't been the same since. It took a while, but even the FE motors and the 429/460's have regained popularity due to go-fast stuff available without cutting a limb off. Now, the mod motor has a great deal of suppliers to make it a player in the game too. The SB Ford is now what the SB Chevy was in the mid 70's through the mid 90's=An easy to build, cheap horsepower maker for anything, be it street, strip, track, show or off-road.

Went to Germany last summer. The cars built for German use are not the same as imported here. Theirs are much better. Even if they do make a truck, it won't measure up to actual German standards. U.S. standards, yes, but not the same.

the only thing even old chevys have going for them is a aftermarket that bows to them..... make a million plus engines someone is bound to use them. Come on.. they are internaly ballanced and have ****ty castings compared to other makes. I know a guy that had a 409 impala and it threw a rod and broke away have the block! That would never happen with my Amc 390.....

I did forget one good thing... their oil pumps are the best though..... prob because they had to be... but anyway...

Why are you all trying to reason with this guy he's obviously made his mind up and wants to go to Chevy .No matter what you say he'll just argue and quote how one time his friends, uncles, cousins ,brother drove a chevy truck a hundred million miles blah, blah, blah.

Ya know, all manufacturers can make a POS on any given day. It sounds like you got one of 'em. I can relate, mine is a POS too, and I can't wait to get rid of it. But I gotta say that up until this one, we've had good luck with Fords in my family, and I'll probably buy another. That said, I don't blame you for buying a Chevy if you've been the victim of a POS Ford

Cool

BSP, it looks like you don't have alot of friends with making that statement.

And all I have to say is for over 37 years, Ford has been the best selling truck in Canada and I have owned 2 of them. The old '87 F150 with 300 I-6, 4 spd bought it with 120,000 kms (about 75,000 miles) and sold it with 305,000 kms (about 190,000 miles) and it is still being driven to this day. My '94, bought it with 94,000 kms (about 58,000 miles) and will be turning 298,000 kms (about 185,000 miles) in the next week or two. In the United States, Ford has been the best selling truck for over 26 years. Now, obviously they must be doing something right if they have out sold the competition for that many of years. And if you look at the territory / weather conditions / usage, odds are that the Canadian people probably pound their trucks harder.

Besides, I just hope you don't decide to haul anything major with your new truck because a Ford could do it better and quicker than anything on the road today. Chevy may boast about higher HP & TQ figures but if you can put it to the ground then it is not much use.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'
Dean
