97 4.6 cylinder head removal
I have a head gasket leaking oil, on one side, and with 220,000, I think I will replace both. Are there any tricks, hints, or easy ways to do any parts of this job? I would like to minimize my learning curve. I even read that the engine had to be pulled! I hope that's not the case.
Thanks

it is a PITA to do it with the engine in the truck. Threar most part of the engine is under the cowl and it makes the head removal difficult. When lifting off and installing m,ake sure you do not scratch any of the machined surfaces. the easy way to do it is to remove the cab. See: http://flatratetech.com/images/nav_how_to.htm
Note the head bolts are torque to yield so they are not reusable. I would set the Crankshaft keyway to the 12 o'clock Position before I removed the crank pulley. This will make installing the timing chains a lot easier later. I would also get a good shop manual. Helm is the best.
