Lately Im getting decent gas millage!
Ok, I know how your driving makes a HUGE difference on gas mileage, so today I drove 52 miles 1 way, I tried to keep it around 63 mph the whole way on the highway with the cruise control (yea it was hard to drive that slow but I disciplined myself). Anyway I only used LESS than an 8th of a tank, and coming home I averaged around 65/70mph and I used under an 8th for the same amount of miles and I know my gas gauge is working perfectly!!
When I drive 75/80mph It always takes well over an 8th of a tank but not quite 1/4 so the difference is freakin huge! Does anyone know how to figure up actual mileage from these numbers?

miles divided by gallons used
fill it full, record milage and drive, fill it again, then use the formula. Yes, driving at 60MPH uses less gas than 75-80.
don't let the gage fool you, use the folmula to be sure, most gas tanks on these fords are bigger at the top of the tank than the bottom-hence your gage moves less when full vise faster when near empty.

Do you actually know how to figure your gas milage???
I do it every time I fill up. No matter if it's the truck, the Jetta, or either motorcycle that I own. I really do know how you can even estimate mpg by looking at your gas guage.
I usually don't write it down, just kind of remember but I'm running between 13.5 mpg and 15 depending on usage and how much I'm running the AC.
If you really want to know how you are doing I would keep a log.
BTW running 60-65 on the highway I'll get between 15 and 17. I do keep my tires on the higher end of the PSI scale as well. Which I think helps so. I'll usually run 36psi in them.

Thanks for the feedback, my tank seems to hold about 22 gallons when filled. I'll start keeping track of miles next fill-up. It just seems lately now that ive been trying to change my driving habits its made a big difference. That also makes sense watsonr that the full part of the tank is bigger than the lower part. Thanks again. :santa:

I drove up to Minneapolis to pick up a puppy today and I got outstanding mileage considering the average speed (70 mph) and the weight that I am hauling. There may have been a slight wind advantage on the way home because of a thunderstorm kicking up, but I was driving into the wind on the way there.
I knew I was on a roll when I checked the trip odometer at the 3/4 mark and I had driven 140 miles, and at 1/4 tank I had gone 300 miles.
343 miles on 19.8 gal = 17.3 mpg

could it be they are finnially pumping the summer grade gas up here in the north? when i lived in tenn. i was getting 475 miles on a 24 gal. tank between fill ups. now that i live in one of those areas with the ethinol mix im lucky to get over 350 miles to a tank.
and with gas prices the way they are i know ive been alittle easier on mine. and i do notice a huge difference when i run the speed limit or under. doin 55 in the right lane drafting semi's really helps too.

You can compare mileage using my fuel log:
http://home.comcast.net/~deep6blue/truck/fuel/fuel.htm
You can download the excel spreadsheet that use here:
http://home.comcast.net/~deep6blue/truck/fuel/fuel.xls
Just input the miles and it will calculate for you.
UPDATE:
I added an almost blank spreadsheet for others to use.
http://home.comcast.net/~deep6blue/t...blank_fuel.xls
Just add the gallons used to fill up, the mileage since last fill up, the cost to fill up (optional), and the price per gallon (also optional). The mpg will be on the right. Any questions just ask.
