I guess I'm lucky I've yet to see/hear a squeaky Chevy. I've always prefered GM's, but got a really good deal on my F150 which I've never had anything against Ford trucks... (not real keen on Ford cars) I wanted to get a GMC. Dad has a 2000 GMC regular cab short wide, and it is just an awsome truck. No squeaks, no problems. At this point in the game I wouldn't give up my truck for his, but I do personally think his interior is more comfortable than mine. It will however take a lot of convincing and or incentives to ever get me to trade my '03 for an '04. I don't care for the styling, and I really don't like the interior. Very hard to see out of the sides for one thing. And I'm just not into the hard plastic edgy modern look... I love the interior look of my '03. and as far as handling I thought the '04 was nice, but seemed as big as the F250, it was just too darn big. I don't even think it would fit in my garage. plus I wouldn't be surprised if a small car could be hidden from view if pulled up close to the tailgate... not too mention Ford doesn't even offer a regular cab anymore... That's the biggest turn off for me. I could live with the styling, interior etc, but the little backwards doors do absolutely nothing for me, except block my side view...

So, I think Ford are good, Dodges are good, and GM's are good... Just whichever suits your needs, and tastes...

The '04 model does have a Regular Cab.... it is different than previous regular cabs. It has a class exclusive rear door for added storage.
Longer cabs were created without adding significant increase in overall length. Regular cabs now have more space behind the rear of the seat and a class exclusive rear door to access up to 16 inches of storage.

But, it is called a Regular Cab.... just added an exclusive feature on the '04 model.

Exactly Ford has a class exclusive 4 door extended cab in two available sizes, but NO regular cab. Ford can call it what they want, but they still have NO regular cab. I'm not the least bit interested in their little doors. They're annoying, hard to see around, hard to get in around, and the front doors just don't shut as solid... I would rather have a true 4 door (SuperCrew)... but I don't want that big of a truck...

Interesting as far as far as your preferences go.

I find their new "Regular Cab" design to be a giant leap forward in all aspects. The rear dors make it hard to see? Or to get in and out of for the front passengers?

I find all that has been improved in the 04 over the 03. They make the Heritage just for your preferences it would seem.

With your comments, that was probably a wise marketing choice for them to make. Something I had questioned some before.

It may have something to do with my height and/or seat position, but yes, with the seat all the way back when I looked out the side window all I could see was a huge B-pillar... It was very difficult for me to see out the driver's side window. And with the seat all the way back the rear door seemed to be good place to bump my shoulder or hip when getting in or out quickly...

I have never been a fan of extended cab trucks. But them I'm a single guy who doesn't like to carry much stuff inside... I was just very disappointed with the new "regular" cab...

I'm very happy with my '03, so I guess this isn't an issue for several years down the road... However I was very interested in the new bodystyle regular cab 4x4, until I drove one...

I usually tell folks if you just want a truck to say you have one and don't intend to work it any harder than the occasional bag of groceries in the bed, then get which ever one you think looks best or rides best or whatever. But if you are going to beat your truck, buy a Ford. Fords have always held up better under hard use than any other brand. Just drive by a local BBQ joint (or other suitable place where contractor types get their lunch) at lunchtime and you will see way more Fords. And when it comes to towing trailers, it ain't even close. There's more Ford Superdutys out there pulling campers then the others combined. Ford rules when it comes to the heavy lifting.

However, for most commuting-to-work-and-getting-groceries work, any of them will do.

I have owned 3 Chevy's this is my first Ford. All my Chevy were decent relatively dependable trucks Minus the D@MN squeaks and rattles. This was the reason I sold two of them. (Last one was a ZR2 which was a great truck just to small). With that said I love my 150. Best truck hands down. Only regret is the gearing. I will by another F150 if I ever get rid on this one...

Well, i have owned chevy's and GMC cars and there is no comparison. Ford car's and trucks are better than their chevy counterparts. I have alot of friends with Dodge's, chevy's and fords and to be honest, i would never buy a chevy truck. In fact most people who do are die hard GMer's and they wouldn't think about buying something with better quality like a ford. Ford trucks just feel more solid to me and the styling is better. GM is just plain and frankly have more issues than i care to deal with. I look at them and Dodge as the Arctic Cat of cars.

as an installer, I find Fords much easier to work on than GM's. More room behind the stereo and drivers dash, etc. Fewer parts and kits needed. It's one of the reasons I went back to Ford after about 20 years in chev. trucks.

It's all relative. Chevy's are fine trucks. They just ain't Fords. Thought I wanted a Z71 once. Had it for about 6 months. Dang seats killed my back. Traded it for a 2000 explorer ltd w/V8. Totaled that and got my true dream truck, 2002 F150 SC FX4 Lariat with 5.4. Compared to my Z71, and my dad's gmc, the F150 just drives smoother with better on road control. And my little wife (5') can use the adjustable pedals and seats to drive comfortably. Ford trucks just seem to drive "tighter". But other than the seats, the Chevy was fine.(shake, rattle, and roll)

I am surprised at the 5.4 engine. Nice blend of torque and power.

My next one will probably be the F250 w/diesel.

And for those of you comparing an S-10 to an F150, that's unfair. The S10 as always been the cheapest piece of truck on the road.

I don't have any personal experience with G.M.'s; but where I live, most fire department's in my area use Fords for towing, maintanence and quick response units. Also, most ambulance manufactuers use Ford e-series for front ends. As a paramedic, we had Dodge units until the mid 80's and moved to Ford's and have never looked back. I don't know if it was a Ministry of Health thing or a reliability issue. IMHO, all domestic products are good, since were helping our own economy. (sure Japanese companys have plants here, but the profits still go overseas).
