injector cleaning

A couple hundred bucks is a lot of money to me. Someone else mentioned keeping the engine clean in the first place. I really believe this too. But, heres a story for you. My daughter bought a Ford Escort EXP when she graduated. Nice shape but idled a little rough and didn't have a lot of power. The price was right. Before I took it in to be looked at I deceided to run Seafoam through it. Took a month and three cans of Seafoam. Got a little better each day and when we were done it idled smooth as silk and ran like a champ. She drove that EXP for three years and never had it tuned up. Now she drives a Jetta and wants a Volvo Some kids you just can't tell anything.

If your going to throw a few hundred dollars at getting your injectors cleaned, why not just buy 8 new ones and put them in yourself? I have seen decent deals on new injectors on the net and even Ebay. Just a thought.
I happen to throw in a bottle of 'walmart super tech' brand fuel injector cleaner about twice a year for preventative maintenance. The chevron bottle is a bit better I have heard as well as a little more $$ but as long as you use a decent one from time to time and get reputable gas you should be good to go. Lot's of good info in this thread guys!

after reading through all this stuff i decided that from now on, i would add a fuel injector cleaner with ever oil change (my truck & wife's car).
picked up a case (4 containers) of chevron fuel injector cleaner from price club.
only drag is that from reading the label, it says to add it when the tank is low, but then not to add more than 16 gallons of fuel.
i let the tank get lower than i normally would, added the cleaner, then went and got 12 gallons of gas.
sort of a pain in the but, cause it was no where near topping off the tank, but i should not have to do this about 5 times a year. hopefully this will keep me running clean.

My Story
I have a 97 1-50 with a 4.6L and 96K.
My MPG and power have taken a slow dive over the last year or so. I kinda figured my injectors/intake/valves were dirty. After two weeks of research, I decieded that before I took my truck to the shop and pay $180.00 for a shop cleaning I would try SEAFOAM.
Best $12.00 (two cans) I have ever spent. I have tried other fuel injector cleaners but this stuff is awesome...
I have increased my MPG 1.5 and my power is BACK.....
One other thing. When I went to NAPA to get the Seafoam, I found out that this NAPA has a Fuel Injector machine. You remove your own injectors and bring them in and they will clean them while you wait for $15.00 each....

I have always used fuel injector cleaner at every oil change of 3,000 miles. Dump the bottle in to a full tank and run the tank to about 1/8 – 1/4 full. Never had any problems with any vehicles.
I asked a few different techs at Ford at different times and they all told me basically the same thing “If you use fuel injector cleaner on a regular basis, like every oil change there would really never be any reason to have the injectors cleaned”
It may be necessary for some because of lack of proper maintenance to have their injectors cleaned, but once they are cleaned using injector cleaner every oil change AND changing the fuel filter on a regular basis, like every 15,000 miles you should never have any problems with your fuel system…
