5.4l Block Heater

I'M POSTING FROM ALBERTA CANADA WHERE IT IS A BALMY -45c WITH THE WINDCHILL. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY OUT THERE HAS INSTALLED AN ADDITIONAL BLOCK HEATER TO THEIR 5.4L. THE TRUCK ALREADY HAS ONE FROM THE FACTORY BUT THE BLOCK IS SO BIG THAT ONE BLOCK HEATER DOESN'T HELP MUCH ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS REALLY COLD. I KNOW OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE 2 BLOCK HEATERS ON 351 MOTORS AND ALL THAT WAS REQUIRED WAS THE REMOVAL OF THE FROST PLUG ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BLOCK. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRIECIATED!

Smiggs,

If you care to look on the other side of the block you might find that the Starter is in the way of the rear plug. The middle one is hindered by the motor mount and the front one has the A/C compressor in front of it. Try 0W20 oil. Seriously, the starter might have room behind it for a block heater. Measure your OEM with the plug attached to the heater for clearance.
It must be installed so the element doesn't touch the block on the inside.

Regards

Use a punch or a drift to knock it sideways and then pull it out with vice grips.
