Mine is gone now, and I don't know what did it. I made a lot of changes so which one was it. I know I read that the problem on the Chevy truck engines is made worse as carbon builds up. Here is what I did.

Treated the engine with Auto-RX
Changed oil to Amsoil s2k 0w-30
Cleaned injectors with 3:2 mix of Fuel Power/Neutra 131

Now, once in a while I'll get a few clicks right away, but not always, and not often.

I tend to think I could hear it better after cleaning it with ARX because the engine ran quieter, and it went away while I was cleaning the injectors. That's is just a guess though.

HAVE HAD MINE FOR TWO WINTERS AND IT DID THE SAME THING LAST YEAR, NEVER COULD FIGURE IT OUT. SOUNDS LIKE RADIATOR FAN OR PULLEY IS MAKING THE SOUND. SORRY NO HELP, JOIN THE CLUB.

Lightbulb I know what it is!!!

I have a 94 F150 with 195,000 miles on it. I can tell you what it is for my vehicle. The exhaust system is in perfect shape. But the Ford F150 engineers had a brain fart, and so the exhaust hangers are WELDED to the exhaust system. Well, the exhaust hangers rusted through, and now my catalytic converter is laying on top of a frame member, and the contact causes a rattle every time I start up. The rattle usually goes away once the engine gets above a low idle.

How am I supposed to fix this? I went to the dealership, and they don't sell "in the field" hangers to replace the OEM weld-on ones. Ford wasn't thinking here.

Red face

Go to any exhaust shop? They should be able to fix it or replace the convertor if it's rusted through as well. Never overlook the obvious, learned that by personal experience.,,,,98

Sometimes you can pick up a couple of long hose end clamps, and wrap those around the exaust and through the clap. If they are not long enough, screw two of them together.
