OBD available by turning ignition On/off?

I know some manufacturers allow you to read fault codes by turning the ignition switch on an off several times in a row to initiate a series of dashboard blinks that relate to a fault code. Does a 2001 F150, 4.6L have the capability...if so how? I have a "check engine" light that came on today and my motor is running like poorly.

Thanks,
Herf

No...key on-off several times won't work.

Take it in to an Auto Zone and they will hook up their code reader for free and tell you what code(s) are set. Then do a Search for "codes" on this site and it should tell you quite a bit.

Caution...don't always assume the faulty part that the code shows is the culprit...it could be something else that's causing the malfunction. The people here have the experience, know-how and background to guide you.

Regards,

Kevin
