How much for an engine swap?
eng.swap
Hi eposey; Iam sorry to say the only way to get what you want is to swap out the 6. Try summitracing.com,they have a lot of create engines.you may find what you want there. If not try the salvage yard for a 5.4. Alittle work and you have a fire breather.Mine will run with the best of the trucks, even the highly praised hemi...and all i did was put on an Airaid FIPK and a magnaflo exhaust system. And a msd ignition. But what ever you do its going to cost you some green...good luck oldgray.
Yeah, thats what I am thinking. I want to at least beat some Mustang GT's and some cars that are considered pretty quick.
The only way to beat a stang in the 4.2L is to supercharge along with an intake, chip, and exhaust, and STILL you wouldn't beat one by much.
I am thinking for the price of supercharging a V6 (~$3500+install), I could get a better engine that has much more to work with.
The 4.6L or even better, 5.4L would be my choice since my tranny and most of my other stuff would work with the engine.
Can anyone give me an approximate cost of what it MIGHT cost me to drop a 5.4L into the truck? Thats including install, cost of the engine, and shipping?

eposey,
I swapped my 1998 4.6 out for a 2001 5.4 in the past 3 months. Check out this thread. I have roughly $4,000 in it including the Superchip. You will need to look into the wiring harness though. I got a lot of information from JMC in this forum. Good luck!

Eposey,
What transmission do you have? If you have a standard shift, your only engine choice is the 4.6L V8. If you have the automatic, then you can go with a 4.6 or 5.4.
The issue here is the computer. You need the computer for your engine and transmission. The 5.4 was never available with the standard shift so there is no computer for it.
You also mentioned using the Cobra engine. The Cobra engine will run you thousands of dollars more than a standard 4.6 and probably would not be a good choice.
