Question ford vs. chevy

I would like to know which is faster in the quarter mile....2003 chevy Z-71 silverado supercab with the 5.3 liter or a 2003 ford f-150 off road supercab with the 5.4. everything stock on both vehicles. basically im wondering because im a ford man and my uncle thinks his chevy is the best and i know hes wrong but he will never race them. So comparing the two trucks with the same options and gear ratio (3.51 if thats standard) i would like to know?

Without the race any answer is just an opinion much as my answer is.

If your uncle will let you drive the truck a
stopwatch should tell the tale.

So your truck took the Chevy? Hmmm I used to have a Chebbie Z-71 and I can recall beating the pants off of the Ford's. They do have more HP, however the Ford's have more torque.

Its the age old question I guess.... Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge

From everything I have read, the Chevy will beat the Ford in a race in "comparable" configurations.

MORE TORQUE!

Trytokeepup is absolutely right, Ford will out pull the Chevy all day. People are brainwashed by GM when they advertise more horsepower(which they do have) but it's a friggin' truck! You need torque! Which the Ford has more of than the Chevy. I regularly pull a 5,000# trailer with my Ford 5.4 and it loves it! Give me more torque in a truck any day, it ain't meant to be a race car!

we pull a 3,000 pound trailer with our 2000 F-150 5.4 which is often loaded with 3,000 pounds + and we sometimes haul our tractor (8,000 pounds) and skid loader (5,000 pounds) so between 8-11,000 pounds we haul, no problem :-D

I'd like to see the figures in which your 5.4s could out-tow the 5.3.

Actually the 5.3 can out-tow the 5.4.

The highest trailer weight on the 5.4 is 8800lbs, and with the 5.3, it's 9100lbs.

Both are the highest ratings for each engine, and on both the Ford and Chevy: 4.10 axles, reg cab.

Sources:

Chevy and Ford websites

In a race, stock for stock, the 5.3 and even 4.8 will blow the doors off the 5.4. I've witnessed this several times.

My friends F150 Supercab 4x4 w/5.4 towed his 8000lb trailor without a problem, as did my brothers '02 Silverado Z71 with the 5.3. The Chevy pulled the trailer just as well, as cool, and as long as the Ford did.

Tow Ratings

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the manufacturers tow ratings aren't the say all end all in the matter. Because the Chevy is rated at 300lbs more doesn't mean that the Ford can't do it or do it easier. It is just Chevy's way of saying to people like you that "a chevy can out tow a Ford" and hey what do you know it worked. As far as a 5.3 or 4.8 "blowing the doors off of the 5.4", I'd have to say you're on crack. If equally equipped, same gear ratio, both with limed slip and auto's I'd bet you would be splitting hairs in who wins. In all honesty the only time I ever saw them compared was a year or two ago in one of the mags and the 5.3 Chevy did barely win in the 1/4 mile, but the Ford had an open diff and the article said that with a LS in the f-150 the race would have been a dead heat. The article was on 2 wheel drive trucks, (i'm thinking maybe car and driver?)they also did a dyno run and the Ford put more hp and torque to the ground, but I know you'll never believe that because Chevy says they have more and they say they can pull more therefore they must be able too. LOL.

The only reason the Chevy may be able to tow more, is due to how light the truck is anyways. It gives up a few hundred pounds to the Ford.

A buddy of mine is one of those people that has owned everything out there. Fords, Dodges, Chevys, Toyotas, whatever. According to him Chevy used to to it to the Fords. But the last Ford he bought, to quote him, is "the pullinest I've ever own, never seen anything like it". I would go on to credit him more but there is no need. Ask him, the new Ford pulls so much better.

02RegularCab4x4,

Ok, if the manufactorur's ratings don't matter, then what proof do you have that Ford's tow better than Chevys?

I've owned several trucks from BOTH companies, and the Chevy pulled everything of mine just as well as the Ford.

Know what I think? That's just a biased bull**** statement that a lot of Ford fans like to use without backing themselves up.

And yes, on all acceleration tests, in both Motortrend and Car and Driver, the Chevy w/5.3 DUSTED the F150 5.4, similarly configured. Check your facts, and face it, in a fair and stock race, the Chevy is faster........

I have never lost to a 5.3 either stock or slightly modified. As far as towing capacities..what does that mean..so Chevy tacks on a higher towing capacity, if you had any clue whatsoever you would know torque is what towing is all about & the 5.3 lacks just that.
Get a life & go play with the chevy boys & stay out of the real Truck Forum.
