100k+ and K & N
#2
I have 105k on my truck but have only been running K&N drop-in for the last 20k. I just did an oil sample w/5500 miles on this change using Mobil 1 syn. The silicon or dirt numbers were very low, below avg. I expected to see higher numbers based on what people say about K&N maybe not filtering as well as paper. Personally I'm going w/paper on my next truck. I may get a new one this week. I saw a post where a guy stated that to test wether your engine is getting enough air or not is to hook up a vacuum guage and if it reads 0 vacuum at WOT then you are getting enough air. If this is the case with a paper filter then you probably won't benefit from K&N. I don't know if this is true but maybe someone will post about it. If I buy brand new I don't want to take any chances because I plan to run it 200k or better. Too expensive to replace too often.
