Question Fixing/Checking The Starter

Is it possible to check the starter yourself and where exactly is it?
I posted a message here earlier called "Terrible Noise When Starting Up" which explains my problem. I'll try to make a link to it. It's on the second page of the engines forum.

Hmmm

Well, that all depends on what engine you have in your truck! I'm familiar with only the 5.8 In the F150. A starter is a rather basic thing, to tell you the truth. It looks basically like a wiper motor ( a cylinderical tube, ususally black in colour) And to access it, you'll have to crawl under the truck. The starter has a solenoid on top of it (kind of like a black box with power hookups), and Has a section at the end of the body (cylinder) Cut out for the 'bendix' to jump out. When you turn the key, the bendix, basically a small gear on a shaft, pops out, and kicks onto the flywheel. It turns it, and Starts the whole engine process. Ask someone familliar with your engine about it!
