Talley is correct- I do endorse the Flowmasters.

I originally had a 28" glasspack in place of the O.E. BUS muffler. I liked the sound, and it performed well.

I switched over to a 40 series Flowmaster exiting in front of the right rear wheel and noticed the sound was deeper and meaner, but not really louder.

I admit, the Flowmaster sound is an aquired taste indeed. But sound is not why I modded my exhaust. I was after low to mid range torque, which is what I got.

The exhaust recommendations that Talley makes are also good alternatives as well. Basically, as long as you don't increase the diameter of the pipes, and keep it a single system, ANYTHING is better than the rediculous muffler that these come with.

I hope this helps, and keep us posted when you finish the mod.

Oh, stick with the orignial 40 or 50 series 2.5" inlet/outlet.

The DeltaFlows are nice, too.

Wink flowmaster

i went to a local performance shop and bought a flowmaster 40 series delta two chamber 3 inch inlet and outlet. then i took it and the truck to a local exhaust shop. it cost 100$ to install and sounds great...a whole lot cheeper than a cat back. around 170$ for everything even the crome exhaust tip

Thumbs up Big nasty one- I agree with you

Big Nasty One- The one thing about the newer version of the FlowMaster muffler I like is the loss of the annoying mid-range drone. That harmonic vibration gets on my nerves after awhile, and I'm glad to see they got it taken care of. Have you noticed how much deeper your truck sounds with the Flow and the three inch inlet/outlet? I opted for 2.5" inlet/outlet going into 2.75" I.D. tubing for the side exit. There is a notable deepening in the tone. The only reason I went with the slightly bigger exit tube is because I was hearing a slight high rpm hiss- a good sign that the Flowmaster is about at it's limit. Once the bigger exit tube was installed- all gone.

Talley,
That sound clip of the 40 series sounded like a boat motor, I would have taken it off too! I have the DF 50 series SI/DO and it sounds much better than the 40 series IMO. It is still high pitched, but not nearly as bad as 40 series.
