Question Alternator Burst Into Flames

Just saw on the morning news about a 2008 F-150 burnt to the ground. They spoke with an expert repair man that figures out what causes fires in vehicles. He showed the alternator connection that is of a bad design and can cause a fire. He said there is a replacement for this part. Anyone know of or heard of this problem with (he said 2003 Ford F-150 on up 2013)? Where do I get this part?

Anyone ever replaced it? I have a 4.2l in my 2006 F-150.
Thanks in advance.

If this were the case, then a lot more F150 fires would be occurring.

My opinion on what you saw: Some shade-tree mechanic (or sloppy mechanic at best) didn't do something right.

Makes sense...…..Checked my connecter and wires and no evidence of any heated (brown discoloration). Just thought I would throw it out and see what came back...…………..Thank you

If this information is correct, then there should be a recall, or at least a Technical Service Bulletin. Any such recall or TSB would be common knowledge by now, and have been widely discussed on online forums. If indeed this problem exist, then a lot of alternator fires would have happened in the last 15 years.

This is the first time I've heard of this. Has anyone else heard of this?

I haven't heard of Ford alternator fires since the early 1990's.

Just don't get rear-ended or you will blow up like a Pinto.

My truck has been rear ended twice and hasn't blown up so far.

Climate Change killed the dinosaurs. What else would you call The Ice Age? And we only have 10 years, with Green Legislation proposed by a 20 something bartender, to fix a problem which is conditional of the earth and predates man's existence.

This is how rumors get started.

I don't know about the connectors. However, several years ago, I had a 72 Chevelle that fried a couple alternators. the problem was a poor engine ground to the frame. I ran additional ground and problem solved!
