Tire Upgrade and Axle Wrap

Tire Upgrade and Axle Wrap
Greetings everyone, and Merry Christmas! I知 new to the forum and happy about becoming part of the community.
I have a 2005 F150 with the 4.2l with the 5 speed manual and 3.31 axle (no ls). At about 50,000 miles I purchased wheels and tires off of Craigslist from another F150 owner who upgraded his. The ones I bought were chrome wheels...the originals were aluminum. So I went from 235 70r17 to 255 70r17 on all four corners. Now I知 at about 75,000 miles and I知 noticing the shudder/hopping only upon takeoff from complete stop that so many have experienced. Does anyone have an opinion about wether or not the increased tire size could be causing axle wrap? It痴 not clutch packs causing the hopping feeling since I don稚 have the limited slip diff. So I figure it must be axle wrap. Seems l8ke low mileage to be experiencing that but I知 not sure what else it could be. I知 about to hook up my GoPro to the bottom to get a peak while I drive. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies guys. After a quick search it seems like there’s nothing I can do about clutch chatter and I’m thinking that’s probably what it is. I didn’t think those tires would be big enough to cause axle wrap but I wanted to ask anyway. I guess bleeding the system wouldn’t work? I did have to top off the reservoir about 7 months ago....wonder where that fluid went. I’ll crawl underneath and check out the u joint, glc, but , something tells me it’s chatter. 75,000 seems kind of low mileage for the clutch to be acting up but I guess that’s the way it is

You may have a slave cylinder that's starting to leak, this is a common issue. Mine went out with 65k miles when the truck was 4 years old. If so, you need to pull the transmission and bellhousing to get to it anyway, so I'd do a complete clutch rebuild, including bench grinding or replacing the flywheel, pilot bearing, and rear main seal.
Pull the rubber inspection cover under the bellhousing and look for evidence of a fluid leak. Check both the front and rear u-joint.

Hello i also had that problem i put 6 inch lift with35 12.50.x20 on my 07 f150 i thought i had axle wrap because when i took off it made a popin noise and felt soft on the leaf spring come to find out the drive shaft was the problem ..when ford designed the shaft they used nickel plating on the inside of the yoke that goes into transmission..the plating wears out cause the shaft to bind up and it force it to slide causeing the axle wrap feel. I learn the hard way chasing the problem..what a 4x4 builder done was put Teflon grease the green kind in side of the yoke and it cured the problem.no more pop no more axle wrap feel .socket 12mm to take bolts off the pinion mark the shaft before you remove to put back the same .... Hope this helps...very cheap to do costs of grease
