Will this work?

My buddy who owns his own shop has a 4.6L out of a 2001 and i was wondering if the engine will bolt up to the 5spd from a 4.2L. I know that there is some things that need to be changed such as motor mounts fuel rails, and computer. But i can pick up all that stuff out of the pick-n-pull up here for about 150$. I the only thing i dont really want to do is have to find another transmission. The reason im doing this is because the friggin 4.2L i have in there has had nothing but problems so this 4.6L which has already been rebuilt is looking like a sweeter deal ever day.

Yeah the 4.6L came off the factory line with the M5OD so it does fit, but I am unsure of the specifics of it, re: bellhouse pattern

The 4.2 has a different bellhousing than the 4.6, it will not fit.

No, you are going to have to find a M5OD from a 4.6 or put an automatic in it. Also, trannies will not interchange between 4x2 and 4x4.
