The difference would only show up north in the mountains and I have no intentions of going north with the rv. The last tow I made with the Superduty V10 was from Home to Daytona about 2hrs each way and $80.00 in fuel each way getting 6-8 mpg. The truck only got 11-13 empty! I had to stop the insanity! I will say this if this truck had the 4.10s it would out perform the V10 even in the mountains!
Well good deal. Glad its working for you. I have also heard that first gear on the newer 6 speed transmissions is much lower than the 4 speeds so the gearing seems lower than it actually is. Just got my 06 in December, but am interested to see how these ecoboosts hold up in the real world. May be in my future in a few years. I know Ford did some "extreme" testing, but I just don't know how well I can trust that when they're obviously trying to sell the trucks.

The EB will outperform the V-10 *especially* in the mountains - forced induction.

Went camping this past weekend about 30 miles away from home. Decided to take the rural highway route instead of inerstate. Wanted to see how we faired up and down hills, around twistys and through small towns. The truck never grunted on the hills, even when starting out on the base of them. Averaged 9.2 mpg. and tranny temp was around 209 degrees.

Have you read this? 9000 pound enclosed cargo/car hauler, FX2 Screw 3.55 axle, about 8.5mpg at higher speeds than probably should (70-75mph). My 6000-ish pound TT that I test towed was just under 10mpg on flat land including 0-60mph starts.

Towed boat 100+ miles round trip today. About 6500 lbs., mostly flat, two lane roads - Speed limits from 25mph zones to 55mph zones. Truck is 4x4 3.73 6.5' Screw 10.5 mpg on average from start to finish. The bars towards the end of the trip on flat 4 lane showed more like 11.5-12mpg it looked like. 1500 miles on the truck.

I'm wondering if the same rule that applies to diesels with turbos still stick with gas engines with turbos. Do you still need to wait 3-5 minutes before shutdown so the bearings don't get messed up in the turbo?

Good question. I would think Ford is banking on this motor so if they anticipated a problem they would have either addressed it, or it would be out in BOLD print so the consumer doesn't screw it up. I hope I'm not giving Ford too much credit here, rather I hope it behaves like a N/A engine so it is relatively hassle free.

Nope, the turbos are at water cooled and at the lowest point in the coolant loop. The coolant leaves the block and boils off in the turbo where it goes back to the radiator. It basically keeps pumping coolant even when the engine is off.

3 to 5 minutes is kinda extreme, but I'd probably let it idle for at least 15 seconds to let it spool down.

It's not a coolant issue, it's an oil pressure issue.

Should add that in Tow/Haul mode @ 58-59mph the truck stayed in 6th gear at 1500rpms on flat ground. Clicking down to 5th pushed up to 2000rpms @ 58-59mph.

Richf28- How is the power with the camper hooked up??? Tow like a V8 would???
Any other EcoBoost Owners- I am debating on trading my 2008 Fx4 5.4L s/cab in for a S/Crew 2011. Just trying to decide on EcoBoost or 5.0L? Any opinions are welcome!!

If you are going to tow heavy, get the Ecoboost. It tows BETTER than a V8 unless you get a 6.2.

The ONLY reason I could even think about not suggesting the EB for towing would be due to lack of 36 gal tank option. That would be nice when towing!
