01' SuperCrew Totaled, New SuperCrew Ecoboost replaced it.

I had my 2001 F-150 SuperCrew 4X4 Lariat destroyed 2 weeks ago by a person who had a shoe mishap, and rear ended me at full throttle. She was driving a Nissan 350Z and somehow her shoe got hungup and instead of getting the brake, she hit the gas to the floor and it stuck(shoe caught). I was stopped at a stoplight and was 3rd car back. Her car went underneath my truck and caught the tow hitch and bent the rear section of the frame and buckled the box floor and inner liners. Becuase I was sandwiched between cars my truck took most of the force. I bought the truck new in Feb. 2000(one of first Supercrews off assy line, built Jan 2000) and had it 11 years with 107,000 mile. 5.4L, Cold Air, Magnaflow exhaust, Troyer tuned, aftermarket rims, bigger tires, Sound system, and was in excellent condition. I was planning on driving it for 2 more years and then use it as 3rd vehicle for the kids. I was pissed off and still am. Now for the good news. The insurance Co. paid me good money for the '01. I replaced it with a 2011 F-150 XLT 4X4 SuperCrew 5.5' box EcoBoost in Race Red. It has convenience package, chrome package, 3.55LS, Keyless entry key pad, Sat radio. I absolutely love this truck and EcoBoost engine. My old truck was fast with it's setup but this truck would smoke it and will out tow it with no issues. I have had it 5 days and have 400 miles on it so far, and the PCM is still in break in mode(set rich). I look forward to when the PCM re-programs from break in mode. I have not done full throttle yet, but at 3/4 throttle has already out performed the old Crew and surprised a few Acura, Chevy, and Dodge owners It is like your old dog died and you just got the new puppy. The '01 had gotten us across country a bunch of times and had many good Family memories in it with boating, fishing, and camping. Moving on now.

Man, sorry to hear about your 01'. That would really **** me off too. Owing a vehicle for so long, taking such good care of it, all to be ended by some other dumb ***. But congrats on your new truck! Hopefully it serves you as well as your last one did for all those years.

Taking Trip in EcoBoost

Tomorrow the Family and I are taking the new truck on a trip. Should be between 1100-1200 miles when we get back home. I currently have about 625 miles on the truck now and when we get back will be towing with it. We have a boat that weighs 3750 lbs when full of fuel and gear. I will probably hook the camper up to test it out as well, and that is about 5000 lbs empty. I need to get the distribution hitch and sway bars setup on the camper, so will take it out and test it to see how it does. I will report back MPG on the trip and then how well it tows. Later for now.

Dude, you must have some connections on here to have gotten your screen name changed. At first I was like "dude picked an ecoboost name back in Y2K?". Now I see that you own a "raceredecoboost".

MPG update during trip.

We are back from our trip and drove 1056 miles. Left Austin,TX and drove to New Oleans, LA and back. On the way there I could have made it on 1 tank, but decided to stop before getting into New Orleans to get gas. Truck computer said 20.0 mpg and calculated it was 20.35 mpg. This was driving 70-75, 4 people and lugguge, with A/C on half of trip. On the way back I was driving with cruise set at 75 for most of trip and A/C on whole time, and got 19.6 mpg(truck computer) and 19.6 calculated. We stopped to see friends in Houston and had some city driving mixed in and very heavy traffic from Houston to Austin and trip odometer said 1056 miles in total and 19.3 mpg for total trip. The trip between Houston and Austin dragged the milage down some. But for the two legs of mostly highway driving the combined average was 19.8(truck computer) and 19.98 (calculated). Not bad for a vehicle not broken in yet. If I needed to pass a vehicle quickly, it does that very well .

Thanks for the real world numbers.

IMO, 20 highway is pretty impressive mpg for a 4x4 supercrew with lots of power.

My Daughter Drove the EcoBoost

My almost 18 year old Daughter drove the new truck for the first time yesterday and after leaving the first stop light, she said "Whoa"!! She never said "Whoa"!! on the old '01 Crew 5.4L. That is confirming. This thing is like a diesel in how it drives with all the torque being low in rpm range. When driving up hills it doesn't usually shift from 6th to a lower gear, it just pulls them. This truck is making me forget the old '01 Crew very fast. This truck was so smooth on the highway, it was like driving a car. My old 5.4L had Magnaflow exhaust and sounded good, but I'm not missing it, actually enjoying the quiet sleeper mode of this truck. You expect something that is fast to make some noise, but that is what suprises alot of people when you smoke them at lights or pull out to pass them.

Thumbs up Towed Travel Trailer

Well due to work related travel, and family commitments I did not tow with my truck until last week. Travel Trailer is a 26 foot Jayco and is 5000lb when lightly loaded. I set up the weight distribution hitch with sway control and installed my Prodigy Brake Controller. I needed to pull the trailer to my RV Dealer for Inspection and is about 22 miles round trip with mixed driving and a big hill on the interstate. This truck does not know it is back there. The city portion was never hard for my last truck and this truck does not even break a sweat. The interstate used to tax my old '01 Crew pretty hard because of Texas's higher speed limits. So on the one big hill on the interstate, my speed at bottom of hill was 60 mph because of following a slow driver and I pulled out to pass and stepped into it about 1/2-2/3 throttle and at top of hill was at 75 mph and had to let off to avoid going faster. I usually tow at 65 mph and that is not even working this truck. I used Tow/Haul mode and let the truck use what ever gear it needed. It will pull along in 6th gear when on flat ground. I got 12.8 mpg and was beating on it hard just to see what it could do. Extremely happy with it and can not wait to tow longer distance to see what milage it will get when loaded up with all the gear and 4 people and a dog. I have a boat that is 3800-3900 lbs when loaded and full of fuel and hope to pull that around alot this boating season, and the truck should do just fine. So if anyone out there is on the fence about which engine to get the EB or 5.0L and you tow something, the choice is EcoBoost. Very Happy EcoBoost owner here!!

You're talking about the difference in acceleration? My last was a 96 F-150 with a 300 and highway gears. Talk about no pick up from a pick up. I swear my current ecoboost has about the same feel and acceleration as my Charger. I couldn't be happier with my selection and with a 5 year 60K power train warranty it definitely lowers concerns about longevity. The SUV we traded in had 143k on it and that was mostly because it was our primary long distance vehicle for about 7 of the last 10 years. Now the Charger has taken that role, I seriously don't see getting rid of this truck for a very long time and this coming from a person who keeps their vehicles 10 years on average.
