Cool

Let me go first. I'm over the 34,000 mile marker and my engine is working fine. Fires up without a problem and no funny noises. I use synthetic oil and only mod so far is a K&N filtercharger.

I'm approaching my 4th oil change at 12K without a single problem. I did have a bad sender unit in the gas tank that Ford replaced, but no engine problems.

I know I'm at 8K miles and I have had not one problem.

But for a more accurate Ford Tough description, take Curt R. for example. Good friend of mine, but he drives like Satan on a mission for souls. He has @ 95K miles and has not had one problem except for some bad gas he put in the truck, which really shouldn't count, cause that's not the Ford's fault. That's what convinced me to buy one, the fact that he rag's the hell out of it, towing, racing, crazy driving, and it's still workign perfectly.

I just crossed the 50,000 mark and it still runs great. I've changed the oil ever 3,000 miles and never had any kind of a problem.

Thumbs up

Other than a stripped drain plug thread insert from the factory, (I caught it on the first oil change @ 500 miles, dealer installed new pan) not one problem. Burns anything gasoline w/o complaint or ping, idles smoother that any V8 I ever had, runs like a striped *** ape, always starts right off, doesn't slap it's pistons around or rattles it's lifters. Returns great gas mileage, and never fails to deliver the occasional smile when I wax some automotive advisary of similar displacement. (i.e. 4.3L GM stuff). Mobil 1 from 500 miles on, 5000 miles to a change, no mods whatsoever and none planned right now. (Until gas $ come down a bit, then maybe a Superchip) With a new tranny @ 23000 miles, I am a happy Ford consumer!. just my .002 j.b.

Cool

45,500 miles and counting. At 50,000 I am flushing out the radiator, bleeding the brakes, (checking) the spark plugs. Oil and oil filter changed every 3k

So far so good!

I have a little over 11,000 miles on my 1999 4.2 F150 and the engine has run flawlessly.

This is the best vehicle I've ever owned. The gas mileage has increased and I've have had 3 tanks with with 21+ miles per gallon over the past 2 months. I've averaged 19.29 mpg since day one. The worst tank of gas averaged 17.57 mpg.

I live in Houston and spend a lot of time stuck in freeway gridlock traffic which has penalized the gas mileage somewhat.

I was driving a Subaru Legacy and ended up getting the 1999 F150 after my wife's 12 year old Crown Victoria was stolen from a grocery store parking lot in our neighborhood last labor day weekend. The wife now drives the Subaru and I got the F150.

Hmmmm well my 98 F150 XLT V6 with the 5 speed manual has been tickin and clickin since I bought it. THE LEASE IS UP IN 2 MONTHS, I WILL LACK AN F150 UNTIL THE NEW ONE COMES IN, ACK! Anyways I have nourished mine with a K&N Filtercharger, Split V Sparkplugs, Castrol Synthetic Oil, and keep the entire system clean with NOS fuel injector cleaner and octane boosters. Its at 32000 miles and I owe some cash to the FORD dealer seeing as my miles were up at 30000. Ok well hope this helps.

Just turned 37k miles on my '97. Runs great. Quiet operation. Never had an engine problem with any of Fords, Including my first one:
1954 Fairlane, 1973 Maverick, three different mid 80s Supercabs, and my current love-the '97 F-150, my bride's four Tauruses, #1 son's '65 Mustang and '96 Probe.
#2 son's '89 Probe and '98 Mustang.
Ford family and loving it!
(And my dad-in-law's 2000 Navigator--WOW!

Just rolled over the warrantee clock. Between 0 and 36K, no major engine related problems, might be minor but kinda hard to know if its a problem or a feature. The truck is a workhorse, it never towed but it hauls a bunch and is frequently overloaded. I drive smoothly most of the time, and only gun the engine in emergencies, or when I see that I am getting crap mileage that I might as well have some fun at it. Its a slow poke and sometimes sounds like a diesel, but when travelling freeway even with a heavy load, I can get 19-23 mpg's. Sure school buses whiz past me but I want them mpg's. Knocking of wood and hoping for 165K more miles. All stock except for a K&N air filter.

Best mpg 22.5+
Worst mpg 13.5+

Heaviest load ~6800 lbs GVW

I (knock on wood) have had no problems with the V-6 yet @ 40K. I have an early production model with cracked doors and the dreaded timing cover leak. Luckily I had an alert service person that noticed it starting to seep...so no problems because of it. The mileage sucks. I've got the 3.31/auto combo and get MAYBE 18 highway. That's not bad for a truck, but the V-8 can do that with more power available for towing. While my F150 is a good truck, my next one will be a Silverado. I've had nothing but awesome luck with Chevys and like the transmission programming & durability. Ford trannys are just not tough enough for what I use it for.

Get a Ford Superduty or a 5.4L F150 they can out pull the chevy!

I thought I might add. We had a Ford E150 for a company van and it had the 4.2L V6. That truck, let me tell you, was beat to heck. Pedal to the metal all the time and always hualed heavy equipment in the back. At first I thought it was a V8 because of the power that thing had, I didn't believe anyone that it was a V6. Anyway we had it for 45,000 miles and no problems with the engine what so ever.
