Cool Volant F.I.P.K

You can see these at www.volantperformance.com.I looked at all the fipk and decided to get this one since it was made to have the filter is up against the fender opening to maybe get some cool air from the there.the filter has an opened end.also it looked nice and seemed to have a good mounting system. Will let you know how it installed and any results when I get it.

Question

I checked out their website and I was impressed with the fact they had a picture of the FIPK installed on a 4.2L specifically. The only concern I had was that their whole marketing draw was that they said their boxes are sealed to draw cold air from fender, however, on the V6, it was just a standard "airaid type" open filter. So my question would be, what would make the voolant going any better than the airaid or AF1?

Thanks,
Chris

I think thats just a cool pic so you can see the blue filter that matches their logo colors. If i remember right every engine link has a picture of the actual filter on the actual engine its linked under.

How much are they asking for this plastic tube?

I find it interesting that they don't have any head on shots of the fipk. You'd think if thier whole marketing draw is about getting cold air from the fender, they would show the front of the filter and not just the side. I think this is just a marketing ploy. I bet the front of the filter is closed off even. In that case, wouldn't it be worse than the fipk with the heat shield? Just an observation.

yep, I was thinking the same thing..

There is no tube going into the fender(look at the pic of the complete kit), so that right there is just a marketing bs statement

Thumbs up

I'm afriad that you all are a little confused. They actually make 2 kits, one open filter ala K&N/AF1/AR, and they also make a closed filter cold air kit that goes into the fender.

Look at the F150/Expedition with 5.4, they actually have 2 seperate kits available for it, one open, one closed.

Fact is the open filter kit is the only one they offer for the 4.2 at the moment. Someone might want to send them an e-mail to see if one is in the works.

Cool

The filters do have an open end to them that fits up against the fenderwell opening.if you look in their filter sections you can see.It seemed the volant had a good mounting system.I got the Volant for 205.shipped.Does the airaid or air force1's have an opened end filter?I guess if the 4.2 needed a cool air box then I would think at least one of the manufacturers would make one but they don't.would not be hard to make a box like k&n makes for their gen.II kit.
