Free oil change? I don't think so unless your dealer had a special or something? I think you need to wait a little longer B4 putting some synthetic oil in your engine! I don't remember but I was told (I think) to wait for 12,000 miles before changing to synthetic.

If you have a manual transmission then synthetic would be a nice move if you live in a cold climate especially! Our trucks have synthetic oil in the front and rear diffs form factory!

I know run Castrol synthetic in my engine and I'm about to switch to synthetic in my 5-speed. I'm closing at 70,000 kms with my truck!

I'd change that oil and filter now, Hotshot. The first change is the most important. You should do it early and drain out all the debris from manufacture and the early wear particles that always result from break-in.

Personally, I'd give it another two or three regular oil changes before changing to synthetic, if that's what you want to run.

My third F-series. The other two: '73 F-100 Custom, 240 cube 6, 3 on the tree, tan, "West Coast" mirrors, step bumper, knitted vinyl seat, AM radio; and '98 F-150 XL-SC, XLS package, Pacific Green, 4.2 5-speed, 3.55 ls, FM-cassette.

GREAT trucks!

Question

Anyone know what has to be changed to step up to synthetic? Is there a special filter needed. Can I just change the filter, like a regular oil change and drain the old oil, and just pop synthetic in there???

Regarding synthetic engine oil, mine burns 1 quart every 3000 miles on conventional oil, and even more after switching to synthetic. Has anyone encountered this, or is mine just dry? Should I expect this oil consumption?

dsides, I switched to synthetic at 7000 miles and it doesn't use a drop of oil. Did you switch to synthetic right away or did you wait until the motor was broken in?

mtucker, I put synthetic in there at about 15,000 miles. Does yours use any oil at all?

I swithched at the first oil change and saw no ploblems never burn any oil. I use and think that the Wix oil filter are the best on the market.

Question

Just purchased a 1999 F150 XLT Supercab with 32,000 miles and drove it from Chicago to Virginia. I want to switch over to Mobil 1 oil and filter. Any problems with this or things I should be aware of?
thanks,
Mark

Thumbs up

chips the best without question, these tranny's shift like an old dog. The chip changes all that when you get on it to pass, accellerate, whatever.. it helps alot and
that alone was worth the 200 bucks in my mind.

The exhaust makes it growl and sound nice but only adds little gains when you accellerate, same goes for the filter.

all these mods are just bolt-ons and are'nt gonna produce any BIG-TIME HP or do any harm to your truck for that matter!

good luck!!

Cool. Thanks for the info. Will be switching over tomorrow. BTW, I notice you have the superchip, air filter and exhaust...any difference? Would you recommend? Which is most important?
Thanks again,
Mark
