Problems with K&N Air Filter???
I got the K&N filter for my V-6 truck and it started pinging. The dealer said that maybe some of the oil got on the Airflow sensor and gummed it up. Is this possible? I put a paper one back in for now. Has anyone had similar experiences?
i put my k&N in and my gas mileage decreased i am really babying this tank to see what i get.

I have heard of that happening before although it is fairly rare to happen on new k&n filters, it mostly happens on the ones that you clean and put too much oil on the filter. Try and do a search on this board I think I remember reading that someone on here had the same sort of problem.

I had the same thing happen to my V-6. I put in the K&N and it started pinging real bad at higher rpms and about 70-75 mph on the highway. The dealer said the oil charge from the filter caused the MAF sensor to go bad, and replaced it 3 times. It didn't help at all. Now I'm not sure if I should get one for the new truck or not.
Good Luck, let us know what you find out.

yep, I read a thread where someone oiled the k&n too much and it damaged the sensor.. but fresh outta the box, I doubt it. Even when handling my new filter out of the box, my hand did'nt even get oily.. they put a small amount on it, not nearly enough to cause spray or even mist to get in your sensor. otherwise K&N would be getting sued or massive complaints coming in the door..
btw, your gas mileage won't increase until your chip adjusts to your new filter.. my mileage did'nt get better until about 4-5 tanks later after installing

ONLY use Ford oil filters, I have had many problems with other brands, now I only use Ford oil filters.
About the K&N air filter, that is a different story, I like it and will always have these filters on my vehicles. Doesn't Ford sell K&N air filters for the Cobra?
