Post Big discrepancies in mpg's

Darn, I am getting either great mpg's or worse mpg's. Just goes to show how big driving conditions can affect one's mileage. With the V-6 and my regular early mornind delivery/school/work/errands one tank can give me 15-16 mpg's. But when I do my San jose-Tracy route, it would give me 21-22 mpg's. There used to be a time that I get 18-19's, I rather get those numbers consistently than what I am getting right now. BTW, who get's the highest recorder mpg on a V-6. I have gotten 22.3 once, and a 27 but that looks like a pump snafu.

V-8, who needs a stinkin' V-8? The question is, who wants a stinkin' V-8? Me!

I consistently get a bit better than 15mpg on full tanks driving nothing but 4 miles to work and back. (Takes me over a month to burn a tank) The few highway trips I have made have given me 20-21mpg.

Best mileage was in 1998 when the truck was all stock except for the body lift. I got 20.69 MPG. We were driving cross country. The worst mileage was on our return trip towing a 2,226lb 6'x12' U-Hual. I got 10.25 MPG. Now with all the mods on my truck. I "avg". 15.7MPG city, and 16.8MPG HWY

Gee, its kinda nice to have a V6 section, maybe we can fill it like the Lightning folks do to theirs! I appear to have an exception to the rule on fuel economy figures. At 23,000 miles I get 18mpg average. Some highlights of fuel usage history which amazed me, happened on our vacation last year from Ks. up through Ne.,Wy.,Mt.,Id.,and Co. on the way back to Ks. Total distance traveled: 3176.7 miles, using 147.71 gal of regular, paying $198.40 total for fuel. Average mileage was 21.50mpg w/the high of 23.04 and the low of 14.66(pushing headwinds on I-80 @ 80mph) Starting mileage on the truck was 9367.3 miles, and prior to that,it was 16~17 mpg for an average. Since then I have had highs and lows of 16.5 to 20.2 mpg, so it was a nice "break-in run" As a side note, I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 @ 600 miles and noticed no change in mileage until that vacation, other than the piece of mind that comes from a synthetic oil in the sump. j.b.

I drive basically the same 40 miles per day round trip, city driving, conservative. I have been as low as 15.9mpg and as high as 17.9mpg. I also changed to Mobil 1 5W-30 at about 6000 miles with no noticeable difference in MPG.

My daily driving is about two-thirds surface streets and one-third freeway and I get 14-15 mpg. The best I've ever done was driving from Sacramento to Las Vegas and back where I averaged just a tad over 19 mpg, doing close to the posted speed limit. I've never hit the 20 mark, would love to some day. Of course, us here in California have to use gas with MTBE, which is supposed to be better for our emissions, but lowers our MPG. Can someone out there tell me how lowering our smog emissions also lowers our MPG?

I average about 14.5 mpg. I have 280 lbs of TubeSand in back from Nov. to May (better traction in all this rain) and empty the rest of the time. Still get 14.5 no matter what. The absolute best was 16.5 while hauling around 800 lbs of drywall on a 90 degree weekend in the Eastern Washington/Idaho area. I drove from Seattle to there with the tailgate down (empty bed)at 70 mph and averaged 14.5. Drove home the sameway except with the tailgate up and still got 14.5. About to hit 20K and my mileage is just now starting to improve.

I realize my truck is real young(1,900 miles) but from the start I have averaged 16 MPG,sometimes a little lower and other times a bit higher. Most of my driving is around town and not much highway, but when I have been on an interstate I usually cruise at about 75-80 MPH.I can live with this considering the size of the vehicle and all..

Oh and these aren't in any particular order...

Thumbs down

Man,

I am really going to have to have my truck checked out at the dealer then or something.. I average about 12.5 mpg's mixed driving. I do have a heavy foot but I have never gotten better than 16.5 mpg ever no matter what I do.. I run mobile1, I have a K&N and other than that I am bone stock. The time I got 16.5 was coming back from Tomball, Tx (non-o2'ed fuel) with my girlfreind behind the wheel. She never got over 75mph and I could not believe that the fuel gauge had not moved more than it had.. The worst I have ever gotten was on a trip down to houston.. I got about 8 miles to the gallon because I had the thing pegged the whole way down there and never let up. Not to mention the the 8 mph headwind we were having that day..

I am afraid that something is wrong because according to some of your posts, if I baby it, I should be able to get at least 19-20 mpg..

I have 36743 miles and average 17 to 18 with 30% city and 70% hiway(last tank 17.93). Several interstate trips have averaged from a low of 19 to a high of 22 for the trip. Best ever was on I70 from Hayes to Denver with no wind at 23.7. The mileage picked up 1 to 2 mpg after 12000 miles.
