custom tunes

I shopped around to get my 02 f150 4.2 5 speed dynoed and custom tuned found a place called strickly performance in pearland tx thats wants $650 to install a power chip and do the dyno and tune, is this a good price? anyone know this shop? they also said the airraid CAI i put on my truck does more harm than good, they want me to buy a $400 K&N one are they just pulling my leg or is this true, i had a k&n drop in and it fell apart 500 miles later and almost got sucked in to my intake and destroy my motor, thanks

A cold air intake is a cold air intake. just depends on if your brand specific or not. But your air-raid is fine.

Never heard of them honestly, but I don't really know many places around Alvin...even though I live 30 min away. But $650 is pretty steep for a "flip chip" and dyno tune.

Check into getting an Xcal 3 by SCT. Then look into either Troyer Performance or VMP Tuning for custom tunes. Both are excellent, but Troyer has a much longer wait period than VMP does.

Justin @ VMP custom tuned my truck just by email tunes (Since he is based in FL, and I'm here in TX...) I am overall very impressed with the job. Grant it's not a dyno tune, but I can definitely feel a difference.

Ask them how much it would be for them to dyno tune with a Xcal 3, and if not, find someone else....

Your intake is just fine, they guy is just biased towards K&N.

While the $650 is pretty steep, that is the right price, although it should be a programmer and not a chip. Around here an XCal is $400, plus $200 for a dyno tune.

IMO, just buy a XCal 3. The dyno tune will crank out a few more HP, but c'mon, this is a V6 truck, not a twin-turbocharged Supra.

x2... email tunes are fine. Headers and up is where I would do a dyno tune
