I to have one of the 4.2L F150 with the 5 speed 4 by 4 it is a 98 i bought it from my cousin she just had the motor rebuilt bout 3k miles ago the truck has 130k on it. It is the second worst ford motor i ever owned i can put around in it and go bout 60 mile and it takes a half of a tank. i am looking at putting my built 5.0 out of my mustang in it if anyone has any info on what all is needed as in chassis parts or mods. i know i will be using my wiring harness from my 302 computer ect.

Built or not, I think you will be disappointed at the performance of your 5.0 in the F150. And that's if you even go thru with it. Most people come on here (myself included back in the day) with the desire to do such a swap, but then realize the time, effort, cost, etc. is just not worth it, especially for doing a 5.0 swap. Stock for stock, the HP\Tq rating is not that much different between the two.

for the troubles a 5.8 (351w) would be a better swap than a 5.0 (302)

thank you for the welcome but doesn't the 4.2 only have 202 hp? i have had 302 powered 4 wheel drives and they went pretty good. the 302 has right around 330hp and high tq. but do you have any idea on like what type of custom fab making the parts ain't a problem. i am in school for tool and die and cnc programming. what do u think would be the major cost in doing the swap.

yes possibly i have one of those also i am debating on which one to put in still
i like my 302 cause it is a super quick reving engine and plenty of tq to pull and taking it out of the mustang will give me a excuse to build the 5.8

the 302 has right around 330hp
The most HP it ever had in a stock F-150 was 205 if I remember correctly. Most of them were around 180. "Only" 202 doesn't sound that bad...........

The stock 302 didn't have any where near 330hp, maybe the Boss 302 did? But if yours is a "built" 302, then by all means go for it. I'd love to see someone pull thru and do a custom swap like this (I'd rather do a 4bt Cummins or something, which has been done). I think the only thing that will be easy is the fact the the 302 possibly bolts up to the 4R70W, but you have the 5 spd, so I'm not sure about that one. You'll probably have to fabricate some custom motor mounts, complete wiring harness from the 302, etc.

If you're serious about doing this, do a search on "swapping out 4.2 V6" or something along those lines... you will find tons of threads and some really good advice from some very knowledgeable members on this site. As I mentioned before, many people have posted on this site asking about what all is involved in doing such a swap. But once they get their questions answered, with even basic details of what's involved, they quickly change their mind.

Good luck if you do decide to go thru with the swap. Keep us posted on your progress.

The 4.2 has the same bellhousing pattern as the 302. The 5 speed will bolt right up with the correct flywheel. Note that the 5 speed will not hold up with a "built" engine.

i have been searching for a couple of nights on seeing if any forums i can find had any good info and all i came up with was the trans will bolt up and a lot of bickering on what motor to put in them. but no one actually doing it. does anyone know what kind of power and tq u can get out of a 4.2L and what did they do?

I don't have any numbers, but I will say that getting my truck custom tuned has made it a ton more fun to drive. It isn't fast by any means, but I also realize it's a big ole' heavy truck.

Now if you want to look into building up the 4.2, then go over to v6150.com and check out orange_thunder's truck. He did a turbo set up I believe.
