Washed Egine Question

I pulled the boat today to the river and when we got back my buddy decided to wash my truck and done the engine and now it has a miss around 30mph or so . Is it just water in a connection somewhere ? It is throwing no codes .

By the way it is a 2001 F-150 4.2 5 speed ..
Thanks.

Need to get this figured out tonight as I have a long drive at 5am

Plan on new plugs, plug wires, and coil pack when you get time. For now, spray the wires and coil pack down with WD-40 and reseat the wires. Use dielectric grease.

So should I use wd-40 inside the conectors ? I pulled the one off between the airfilter and relay/fuse box and it was full of water (not sure what it is but goes to a little box . ) That was only one I seen wet inside.
Bad thing is is was low pressure water and just barely sprayed over top of engine and it has brand new plugs , wires and coil replaced 2 weeks ago dangit .

Thanks for the advice.

I have another question also . I just bought this truck and the horn and cruise doesn't work , fuse is good for hor and couldn't find it for cruise control , and the overhead console screen doesn't work .
As far as horn goes what should I check for ?
This truck is in mint condition except these small things . inside and out are showroom new and drives it also . It pulled the boat today just as good if not better than my old V8 model did and this is a Ext Cab truck .

Thanks again and be prepared for many more questions in the future ..LOL

The cruise control is on recall, call your dealer with your vin and see if it's been done.

WD-40 inside connectors is perfectly safe, and it will displace moisture. The electrical connector on the intake tube is the MAF sensor.

That's because that is all a F150 needs is a good V6 engine. Not some fancy shmansy V8 like what some people say...

In any case, I'd recommend doing exactly what glc says.

You need a air compressor and a shop vac that reduces down to inch and a quarter. Waters the worst, - anything can happen, it may NEVER run right again. All you can do is dry it out good and replace ignition parts and hope you get lucky.

Hopfully the PCM didn't take on water.

When you get a chance, -beat his a$$.

Similar story on this. Used to own a 2000 Expedition 5.4 V8. Had the engine 'cleaned' which meant the guys took a pressure washer to it. Long story short, water got inside the coils and it wouldn't fire on half the cylinders going over 55 mph. Cost me roughly $3000 to get them all replaced. I still think back on what a HUGE and preventable mistake that was. If you goto your detail guy and they ask you do you want the engine clean say NO WAY. The Ford tech that fixed it told me to only clean engine components by HAND, never a pressure washer. I felt like such a sucker dumbass.

I'll say

A set of 8 new coils for a 2000 Expy 5.4L are $86.00 (that's a total for all 8 combined) .

So you could install new coils yourself for around $100 - That's Parts/tax/shipping/supplies.

$3000 - WOW!

I could purchase two low mileage motors complete for that much.

It's a lot safer washing the V6 than the V8 - there's something to be said about old school spark plug wires and spark plugs out in the open sticking out the sides of the heads. The safest way is start the engine, mist it with degreaser, let it soak for a few minutes, then mist it off. Let it run for about 20 minutes with the hood closed to let the heat dry it out for you.

Interesting, I wash my engine couple times a year (garden hose on shower mode). I just let it dry completely before I crank er' up. Never had any issues in 110,000k miles doing so. I did replace my coil pack at about 90K miles but that's normal wear and tear.
