True or no?
True or no?
so a guy on here just told me that it is better to run your oil a little low. still in the safe zone but not at the max.. i told him that i keep mine at the max all the time. he told me it is better to run it a little low. but still in the safe zone.
is this true?
i always figured keep it full becuse that is the more oil that can be lubricating.
was i wrong?

I don't think it's that critical, but this is how I do it.
An oil and filter change with 6 quarts puts the oil about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way up the safe zone. When it drops below the "add" mark (this takes about 4k miles), I put a quart in. I don't care how high that puts it, and it's time for an oil change before it drops to the "add" line again.

change oil and filter every 3,000 no matter what. check it every week and keep it at the top of the safe zone. what kind of filter do you use? i use MC...
one question tho. why does yours hold 6 quarts and not be full... when mine will hold 5 and be about 1/3 to 1/2 the way up the safe zone... i put 5 and 1/4 quarts in and it is plum full. why does your hold more? what year is yours?
No , I ficken lied to you because that's all I do on this site. That's how I get my jollies.

Your stated you keep your oil @ MAX . That is NOT good for these engines to keep at max .. Period. You maintain 6 quarts - Not 6.2 , .4 , .6 or whatever .. Not good for the internals as I explained in one of your other threads
- Over filling can cause "foaming" of the oil. It's harder on the head gaskets. It's better all around to run a little low than it is on the high side. I can see I'm wasting my time with you.
Here's another part of your quote, I guess I might as well answer here now -
They all hold 6.

Even the 4.2 - We had one as well, so I know where 6 quarts puts it on the stick -

I know what I'm talking about -
I've gotten over a quart million miles on these motors - this one here is a V8 engine oil filter, but same principle. - Don't overfill them. Once in awhile if your on the high side won't hurt, but don't do it constantly.

Done - Good Luck.

You have something wrong if 5 1/4 quarts shows full on your stick. Either you have the wrong stick, the collar has slipped, or you have the wrong oil pan, or the pan is dented. Like I said, 6 quarts and a filter puts mine less than 1/2 way up the crosshatched area.
so do you think i should take it in and ask them what the problem is? because its the original oil pan. and there is no dents in it... all i can think is its the wrong dip stick... but... i dont know...
Uhhh, my dad has owned my truck since '97 and he puts in a little over 6.5 qts. And thats in the "normal" range of the dipstick.
So far we have 5-1/4, 6 and 6-3/4 readings here.... wtf?
So far we have 5-1/4, 6 and 6-3/4 readings here.... wtf?
these were the steps...
drained it...
took the old oil filter off
put the new one on
put 5 quarts in
looked at the stick made sure the collar was not loose or anything. (it wasnt)
after putting the 5 quarts in it was 1/4 of the way up in the safe zone. put the other 1/2 in and it is now at the top again.
i know you told me to not fill it full... but i have did these steps for about 60,000 miles now and change my oil every 3,000 faithfully and it has never givin me a problem so im just gunna keep doing it.
it is weird we all have diffrent readings... i wonder why that is?
i might call ford and ask why this might be

The more oil you keep in your motor the longer it will stay clean for the less oil you have in your motor the less windage you have on your crankshaft. an exadgerated example in running in 4 feet of water vs running in a foot or water see what i mean i run mine half way because it takes a 4.4L jug and a 1L jug and its full its better to run it at half for that little extra power and if you burn a little bit from blow by you still have enough that you wont run below the Minumun level
You have to start the engine, run it for 30 seconds, shut it off, wait 5 minutes, and check it again. If you check it before you start it, it will read high because the filter is empty!
For the 3rd and last time - HAVE YOU READ THE PART NUMBER OFF THE STICK?
