V6 Performance Exhaust Upgrade???

I Have a 2007 XL V6 Reg. Cab with an 8Ft Bed. Can you let me know what the best way to upgrade the stock exhaust system. Someone at my job wants to sell me his kids used magnaflow and said it would fit my truck but I'm not comfortable buying something I dont know will work. Not sure what questions to ask. suggestions and or links would be helpful...thnx.

I have the same year and model truck and I end up choosing flowmaster, the really small muffler. It sounds better than the magnaflow. I listen to 4 different mufflers before choosing at the shop. I heard the 2 different magnaflows first and they sounded like a import. Then I heard 2 different flowmaster. One was pretty mellow deep sound tell you revved it. Then I heard the one I ended up going with. It was deeper and had a nice lope to it. I think cherry bomb would sound good as well. It all cost 150.00$ for muffler and instaLL.

Do a search on youtube for v6 f150 exhaust and you'll find lots of clips of different types.

Flowmaster may sound good, but it can kill low end torque.

My truck is just like yours: '07 XL 8' long bed w/ 4.2L V6. I have the Heartthrob dual exhaust. No muffler. Straight pipe from the factory y-pipe, to a y-pipe, over the axle, then out the back through resonators.

Agreed.

I have a magnaflow system on my truck. It may not be as deep as the flowmaster, but like glc said, it has better torque numbers, and it doesn't sound as ricey in the top in under load. Click the video links I have in my sig.

Thanks for the help. from looking on web I like magnaflow for performance, not concerned w/ sound so much. I don't think He's trying to sell me the muffler, just the dual exhaust pipes. Our diesel mechanic said to get a new exhaust, and catalytic converter with larger opening for larger intake pipe, with a cold air kit and it will work great. any idea how much $$$ all that would cost???

Well it depends on what all you get. My exhaust cost $350, that was including the muffler, tips, and new piping from the Y-pipe back,,,but since you have tips, we will say $300. The CAI will run you, again depending on brand and such, so we will say you get a K&N...$250. High flow cats will be the bank breaker. They cost about $700-$800 a pair, because of all that expensive platinum.

$300+$250+$750=$1300....so rch10007 was right....

*keep in mind that the price depends on what brands you buy, and whether you do some shopping around at different places.

I went with a Flowmaster 50 series SUV for my Staxx project... I'm awaiting to see how they sound... I surely didn't want some small dinky muffler on there, because I need the back pressure, and I DON'T want cab resonance, especially when I'm on a 1,000 mile trip someplace, I think I'd kill myself before that would happen.

Heck, I've got a Flowmaster 40 Delta Flow on my Dak with the 4.7 v8 5 speed and 3.91 ls rear end, and on the highway it is soooo loud! Doing 50 miles on the highway is annoying enough... and the sound is great too, but just too annoying.

My sister had a 40 on her 3.0 Ranger, and the in-cab drone was very annoying.

If it's in good shape there is no reason not to.

Your diesel guy is an idiot. You don't need a new a new catalytic converter and especially one with a larger opening for bigger pipe. That's stupid. You have a 4.2. Larger pipe is not what you want.

Dude backpressure is something you don't want. You want velocity.

Is that why there is such a huge demand for used mufflers, that muffler shops are no longer just throwing them away?

is what i ran on my v6. 1 in dual out to a stainless tip. Simular to the flowmaster 50 series. Gives a great tone at idle and not loud at highway speeds. I noticed a great accelleration gain from a start and at higher speeds. Only thing i dont like is at Wide Open Throttle it looses its deeper note, but it is a v6. I paid right at 3bills installed with tips.
That with a k@n drop in filter and it woke it up alot.
