Ditto, I loved my 04 Heritage with the 4.2. It did what I asked, but I did not ask much of it. Now with my 07 5.4 I will never own full size truck with a V6 in it.

Not saying the 4.2 is a bad motor. I had no problems with it other than the less power. But other than that is was great.

I had an 01' XLT s-cab 4X4 with the 4.6 a few years ago. Beautiful truck with a great motor! Things got bad with our jobs at the time so we made some scarifices. Unfortunately mine was the truck. Recently I was driving an 00' Ranger 4 cyl. so my new truck definitely has more power. The biggest reason I bought my V6 is because it was super cheap and it will do whatever I need to do with it. Sure I would have rather had the V8 but I couldnt beat the price.

Since were talking about V6 and V8's, do the V6's really get that much better gas mileage than the V8's? Because wouldnt the V6 just have to work harder to pull the full size truck? And on sites like carmax when they list the EPA mileage a V6 is 16/21 and the V8 is 16/20. But thats for the 97-03 models though. I was just wondering because I was thinking about trading my V6 in for a V8.

As much as I love to rail, and bash... Trash talking someone with the V-6 is not something that I am all that inclined to do...

Unless, they make crazy claims about HP and MPG

My 01 scab 4X4 with the 4.6 V8 got 17-18 MPG average no matter how I drove it. My travel is about 60% highway/40% city. My new 08 reg cab 2wd v6 stick is getting about 19 MPG. But if I run the a/c alot it gets about 17 MPG. I feel you are exactly right that the V6 has to work harder causing it to use more fuel than a V8. I say if its not going to cost you alot to trade, by all means trade it.

Well mileage may be comparable, but the reason my dad got a V6 instead of a 4.6L is because of insurance. I'm going on 17 and no doubt I'll save thousands vs. a safe 17 year old driver with a Triton over a course of maybe 5 years. And I'm going to stick with this truck until the engine blows up or the damn things disappears with as many times as I wash it.

Doubtful. Full coverage insurance on my 2000 F-250 4x4 is only $20 more than insurance on my brother's 1997 4cyl Ranger... And that's liability only. We both have spot free driving records too.

My turbo charged V6 put out 500rwhp , runs low 12's, and I get 19 MPG.Also still pay insurance on a V6 truck.
