The 27 MPG calculation is based upon starting with a full tank, then filling up after the trip, and then dividing the miles driven by the gallons used.

I certainly would believe 27, with the appropriate mods and driving with an egg between your foot and the go pedal.

I am also running OEM 17 inch wheels w/ OEM 235/70/17 tires. No 22 inch rims, or 35 inch tires.

Most of you guys won't want to go that slow or drive w/out your AC.

MODs which helped were:

Cold Air Intake
40 series muffler
Electric Fans
Custom 91 Octane Performance Tune
Tonneau Cover
ok now i can belive you... u said freeway speeds... 55 is not freeway speeds... now i can belive you...

I don't know if it helps, but I am also running full synthetic fluids. Royal Purple in the engine, transmission, and rear differential. It has been rumored that synthetics increase efficiency.

You are lucky to get it UP to 55 on freeways in a LOT of places. You live in the middle of nowhere and the rest of the world can be quite different.

Amsoil "claims" gas mileage improvements "up to" 15%, but take that with the same grain of salt that you would take horsepower increase claims for a CAI or a catback exhaust, etc.

At 15 MPG, that claim is totally credible. Imagine going from 15 to 17. If I were a geek with red hair & glasses, I would have to say, "myth confirmed!"

I use Royal Purple & Lucas Oil products + K&N Filter. I've also heard good things about Eneos, Amsoil, Mobil 1, & Red Line. What you use will be up to you. For me, it came down to what was readily available at the time. For simple motor oil, I order from American Muscle @ $6.49 per quart.
