K&N Filter/Intake kit for the 4.2

I have a 98 F150 the 4.2 and I've been thinking about putting in a K&N Filter or the whole intake kit. Will K&N make a difference on the 4.2. I heard bad things about K&N, if you use too much oil it will wreck the mass air flow sensor or if you use too little it will let alot of dust through. I work up and down gravel roads everyday and i don't want dust getting in to my intake. Is K&N the way to go or should i go with something better or different?

The replacement for your stock filter will not give you any noticeable power or mileage increase. Over time, you will save some money on filters.

The FIPK will give you a noticeable high rpm power increase (above 2,500 rpm or so) and more intake noise.

I've used K&N for along time and not had problem with over oiling or dirt getting behind the filter. I know ranchers who use K&N on all their vehicles and service them regularly. They use the K&N to save money on replacement filters.

I am kind of curious about it as well, although mine is a 03 model. Is it really that much of a difference with this air filter/intake system, or would my money be better spent elsewhere? What kind of actual validated proof is there to the claims I have seen (both good and bad). Anything and everything I read is as twisted around as the arguements over which wax is best etc etc....

Where is the F150 for dummies book located? Damned I just realized how many posts I replied on tonight (I'm a lil tired, a lil wired, and I think I deserve some frkn appreciation LOL)

Save your money and get the MAC air intake kit. It comes in chrome and it is about $150+shipping. To get K&N, plan on spending $250 or more. THe MAC filter is the same type and can used the K&N recharge kit on it.

I have the K&N cold air intake kit on my truck and I love it, its the chrome one. I got it on ebay for $215, i've seen them cheaper on their. It sounds pretty good at higher rpm's!
