Hey I have a 97xl V-6 should the hook up be the same as yours? Also where did you tap the #48 wire at? Under the hood??

I am not quite surem but heres a pointer. http://www.v6f150.com/forums/showthr...t=tach+install

might want to join the forum and search for "tach install" to read up more on the tach install. Pin #48 is located in the ecu harness(under the hood) but I am not sure if it is the same for your year truck or if there is a white/pink wire behind the dash you cab tap into for the tach signal.

Yea I dont know about first gear but 2nd gear my cut out at about 60mph....
I was driving on campus at college station and these girls pull up next to me in an f-250 powerstroke and decide they want to race...so the road splits off so that i go right and they are suppose to go straight, well they decide to make an illegal right turn and race me down the straight away off campus...
I look back in the rear view mirror and see them make the turn and stomp on the gas (diesel ) I punched it but it was too late...they smoked me and my engine cut out at 60 in second gear, didnt even try for 3rd cause we were already to the light... never had a chance haha

JT, seems the XLT had a tach standard and the XL was no way Jose.

The only exception I could find started in 2000 when the XL came in a 'SPORT' configuration, if you got an XL Sport AND the 4X4 option, they threw in a tach.

I believe that would be the only V6 XL w/tach.

Ya know, it's kinda strange but most manual shift vehicles I've seen only have a shift light...

You've obviously had a poor, misguided childhood being raised only driving newer stuipd manuals. Actually, the only manual I can ever think of that had a shift light was my grandpa's stuipd Chebby S-10.

Not sure if this helps...I have a 97 XL, manual transmission...at the time no tach. I went to the junk yard and picked up a instrument cluster with a tach (from a 98 Expy) took out my old one and installed the new one. works like a champ. it took me awhile to find a tach with mileage simliar to mine, but it works. cost: $100.
