My V6 mods(future and now)....

Hey guys, just thought I'd post what all I've done to my good ol' 4.2, And also what I plan to do. Lemme know what you think....

Truck: 1999 F150 Xlt 4.2/auto Scab 2wd

Stock block hot-tanked and honed
New pistons, rings, lifters(cured that diesel sound when cold)
"Homestyle" ported stock intake, heads(matched to gasket)
Comp Cams Xtreme cam (part #44-701-9)

Future plans:

3.73 gears(Towing help, pulling 265's)
50-75 shot of N20(for steep hills, or the occasional Silverado)
Modified MAF

Anything else you can think of? I have about $400 in the total rebuild. I got the cam, lifters CHEAP from a friend rebuilding a SC T-bird. Got a super deal on the Pistons as well. And the rest just took some good ol' elbow grease.
I tow a 14ft dual axle trailer with my 85 Toyota "buggy". With the 35-14.50 Boggers on it, and trailer, Im hauling around 4000lbs + I think. SO, it does ok now, I can't wait to see how good it is with the rest of the mods. IM also working with Troyer to get a tuner to really take advantage of it. Just thought I'd share my luck with my strong V6. Good luck and happy "rumble bee" hunting...lol

You should look into getting 410's!! These gears are bad @$$.
the acceleration is better, and Fun. BUt remember, YOur spider gears are still gonna be stock, and you can break them over time. So invest in a Positraction unit, from Powertrax. It's around $500 Plus, but man it is worth every penny. That way everything will be heavy duty and wont break on you.

Geez...

Has anyone else noticed that the V6 forum has gone to s*** ever since December or roundabout that time?

This is almost ridiculous.

That in no way was directly or indirectly referencing you. No beef with you, man. The "December 2005" reference was meant to hint at a particular something.

I do have a stock V6 and, at one time I wanted to make her fast too. I still kind of do, but with some of the threads started lately (again, not yours) that have no relevant information, it kind of peeves me off when I log on to see such crap at the top of the V6 board when I really want to hear about someone doing something (like you), instead of just "hateoradeing" on something or another.

Although only one of these mentioned mods is actually done on MY truck, I noticed on a souped up V6 that a chip, pulleys, e-fans, exhaust, and a CAI seemed to make a LOT of difference if you have the cash to meet that price tag. A nice perk about e-fans is that they're much quieter than stock too, so it helps to conceal the monster that you've got under the hood (I tend to think that's pretty cool). Trouble is - if you race a 5.4V8 that has done anything to supercharge it, you'll still lose big time (trust me, I was in the passenger seat of the V6 at the time of that race). I'm not independently wealthy yet, so I have to stick with a slower truck that looks good for now......sigh...

I'm more a member of the "now that's ridiculous and weird at the same time" club. What I really want to do is find a 4.2 Supercharger so that I can just say "Yeah, no mods except for Supercharger, exhaust, and CAI" when I kick someone's little Chevy. And, I want to make my truck's exhaust as quiet as I can so that, when I beat an obnoxious sounding truck with dual Flowmaster 40's, I can kick their butt and still be able to think about what the wife is cooking for dinner on the way home. So, usually my recommendations are not what others say. Personally, I'd get 2 high flow stock mufflers for the exhaust - try to find someone else who agrees with THAT!!!

Problem is - I haven't gotten to the supercharger or the exhaust yet, and I'm not even too sure if the 4.2 supercharger even exists or if it would be worth my money.

I can't agree more. The V6 forum has become something of a circus since that date. I'm embarassed to read the forums. But hey, I guess that's what the world is about right? Tolerance and patience, I'm hoping people will one day grow up, or at least stop behaving like immature 14 year olds. Come one seriously! This is F150online! IT'S THE BEST PLACE ON THE NET FOR F150 TRUCKS!!! DONT RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US!

Search on there and you will find a guy who is doing an M90 SC build up(or soon to be) and there are a few turbos already.

Hey Mike, maybe you need to take the advice of the "truck expert" and buy a donkey like he's already told me twice that I need to do I guess nothing exciting ever happens in the V8 forums.

Speaking of which, let's ALL go buy donkeys!!!!
