Cool.
Is those miles all highway or is it combination highway and stop n go? Don't get frustrated if mileage isnt too good at first. The engine is just breaking in and the computer is learning.
Hope this helps.

Hate to burst your bubble but it aint gonna happen! I have a '05 4.2 reg cab auto 3.55's and the best I have gotten is 19.6, and that was on one isolated trip where I was purposly driving slow and easy trying to get the best gas mileage possible, besides that the best has probably been 18-19mpg. I commute about 60 miles each day, if all I do on a tank of gas is drive back and forth to work on the interstate at 75-80mph I average 17mpg. Now if I drive on 2 lane roads where my speed is around 55-60 I can get in the 18-19 range. If you drive over 80 dont expect to do much better than 16mpg, you'll also get about this if you have much in town driving. If you tow anything dont expect to get better than 12-14mpg, thats what my truck gets when I pull my 18 1/2' bass boat. I would say that if I took all my tanks of gas in the 20k that I have put on my truck and average it out it would probably be somewhere around 16 1/2-17mpg. Of course this all depends on your driving habits, I for one take it pretty easy, I take my time accelerating and try not to hammer down on it unless I have to. I have seen posts on here about guys fuel mileage with the 4.2 and from what I can tell mine gets better than most on here, but again driving habits reflect on this. Good luck with yours and keep us updated on what yours gets.
I have a 06 4.2 w/ 5 spd and the best I have gotten is 20.5, worst is 18, mine is still breaking in though. That is driving a few highway, then a lot of 55-60 mph. I usually take it pretty easy, with a few mods I could probably see a consistent 21 maybe a little more, (I usually get arount 19.5). 22 or 23 may be possible if you take it real easy, but where is the fun in that? Remember you are driving a full size truck though.
I get 15mpg tops, I do all city driving, with a 5 speed and and 4X4. So I'm going to bring back my 1992 Crown Vic and let my not so little bother drive it to school. I wish I got a truck with 5.4L I hate the V-6. I could shoot the salesman who sold it to me. I put 2000 miles on my truck to date, since 11-14-05, does that seem like alot.

The 4.2 V6 has been a tough little kicka** tested little motor. I have an 02 4.2V6 and when I buy my next one, the V6 is what I'm going to replace it with (assuming I don't fall for the V6 diesel if that ever gets released).

Wow 17.95 mpg Yee Haw.Anyhow today I talked to the service mgr at FORD,Quote 3,500-10,500 mile breakin range should get to 19,maybe 20mpg combined average.I believe it, cause it is going up slowly.the last raise was after a race with a GMC 1/2 ton ? the engine size, he had.But he pulled out at 115 mph. I pulled out at 118 mph.The ford handled great and to be honest the 4.2 surprised the **** out of me,the accelleration was there and more then expected, remember I have a style side and an 8 foot bed, and a 3 spd overdrive auto trans which pulled well. All in all I am very pleased.
Well the ARE cover is ordered, the bed rug is also ordered.I'll post pics' when I finish with new rims,275-17 rubber, and running gear installed.
Oh yea, the reason I stopped in at ford, I discovered the bottom inside of both doors where they spotwelded the panels, they painted over the weld pits and spits. The darn doors were not prepped before paint on the bottoms. Also when the runners were painted they had dust or lumps of dust that formed in the paint.Go figure, I caught the autoworker that came back from lunch a little lit.LOL thats my luck

Also, another factor to take into consideration is the gas in the truck, not sure where you live, but here in Maryland, all gas recieves a winter additive, which has a negative affect on mileage, usually losing about 1-2 mpg with the winter fuel. I just filled my truck up today (22.5xx gallons) and got just over 19.5 mpg with the winter fuel. And lets see those pictures.
