Took off the muffler

Took off the muffler

i got a 99 f150 with the 4.2 and just had the muffler replaced with pipe and i think it sounds great for just being a V6. i'd get a sound clip up but i don't know how to even record it so if anyone can fill me in on the secret to gettin a sound clip of it

No Muffler!

I did the same thing on my 2000 XL 4.2. Sounds awsome, i installed 1 pipe off of each cat and ran it just past the cab under the bed and put turn downs. SOUNDS AWSOME! I am gonna get a clip of mine too and send it to you.

Yeah these motors valve springs are too small and require backpressure to function correctly. Your going to burn a valve up.

I'd put a muffler on it and run the exhaust full length if I were you.

well considering what i did was just cut off the muffler and put pipe there the whole full length doesnt apply and in my opinion different mufflers on a 4.2 sound like rice so yea that and i want it to be loud so a muffler wouldn't do that for me and plus i'm not thinking of keeping the truck for an incredibly long time.

and on top of it all instead of spending 200 bucks or so to put a muffle on and do the system i spent 40 buck and got what i wanted out of it.

yeah so why not just destory the truck for someone else right..Thats horrible

Man, that ain't cool. Nobody's being a *****. All we're trying to do is warn you about possibly warping a valve. You might not think it will do it. But when you run it hard for a few thousand miles and start to hear a ticking sound, don't say you weren't warned ahead of time. My bro's Dakota R/T did that exact thing. He bought it new, ran straight pipes out the back, and he ran the hell out of it. When he traded it in, it would run alright, but the valves chattered when you revved on it. Some people have to learn the hard way.

What is the difference between a magnaflow muffler with a straight through design of 2.5 inches in diameter and 2.5 diameter metal pipe in regards to backpressure? NOTHING

ummm... there are a pretty good number of people with V6's that run either no mufflers, no cats, or straight through design mufflers. Go look on V 6 f 1 5 0.com and you will see no such problems brought up. Even sign up and ask away. Oh yeah, troyer performance sells an exhaust system for the v6 trucks and I doubt he would sell a kit that would eventually cause internal damage. Straight through mufflers are safe to use.

Thanks for clearing that up. I believe to much of what I read on the net because you can't see the person behind the monitor. I have heard running a short pipe straight of the y-pipe will cause valve damage though. My bro's Dakota R/T problably had that problem because everywhere he went, he had the pedal to the metal. It did sound badazz with that big 360 though.
