I JUST BOUGHT A 2001 FORD F150 4.2L V6. NOT REAL FAMILIAR WITH THESE. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR REMARKS ABOUT THIS OR ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE TRUCK I SHOULD BE AWARE OF? THANKS.

No problems here either with 48,500 miles on the odometer. Just use the recommended 5w-20 or 5w-30 oil and use motorcraft oil filters and you should be fine. The manual calls for 5w-20, but I have been using 5w-30 with no problems since I bought it new.

156,000 hard miles and no problems here, even with the motor work I have done!

Glad that you guys have had some success with your trucks. Mine on the other hand has been a real pain in the rear.

Universals
Coil
Plugs
Wires
Brakes 3 times
ABS Motor broken
Throttle Body

I've put 40000 km in 11 months.

I have a 2000 4.2L that i got around 2-3 yrs ago and still runs great. I haven't had no problems what so ever even with 76,000
miles on it. So don't be worried just take care of it and change the oil every 3,000 milesand it well last you for years to come.

I own a 2003 F-150 4X4 with the 4.2. 23K miles, had to replace the starter, and flywheel-ring gear, chewed that up, and replaced both lower ball joints

Thanks guys for your input. Now I want to change the fuel filter and I was told that I would have to release the pressure in the gas line beforehand. I was told there was a valve under the hood. any idea where that would be? Thanks

pressure in gas lines

When I changed my fuel filter, I just allowed the truck to sit overnight. When I removed the filter, there wasn't any pressure in the line.

To remove the filter however you'll need a tool from a parts store that slides into each gas line and "unlocks" it from the filter. Good news is that it's not expensive to buy, and a parts store may even just loan it free. And, the best deal I found on the filter seemed to be at O'Reillys, their Wix filter was about $8, and Napa's filter was about $30! And I think Napa's filter is manufactured by wix anyway... ?

Excellent to hear. I had heard that if you let it sit for a while, there would be very little in the lines but if you did not release the little pressure that it would spout out everywhere. I will give it a shot. This wil be the first for me. Thanks for your quick response.
