Lightbulb better mileage ideas

List them all please. I've recently bee wrapped up with another toy in my garage and have neglected my one-five-zero. Seems the mileage is not what it could/should be. Please send any and all ideas for increasing fuel economy.

Thanks!

you may get a lot of responses about mechanical alterations but the most effective things all have to do with driving style. it really boils down to a few things; moderate acceleration, moderate speeds, and above all, maintain your momentum as best you can. coast up to red lights, hope they turn green again before you have to stop, etc. if traffic is slowing ahead of you, back off and hope it gets moving again before you have to brake. the F150 is an extremely heavy vehicle. starts and stops KILL gas mileage. the F150 is not a performance vehicle so i try to make a game of maximizing gas mileage. if you take that approach, you can have some fun with the process of getting better mileage.

driving habits

I've had the driving habit thing down for some time, I've babied all of my rides since my first car. That is good and I agree. I was thinking more mechanical, such as what to make sure is cleaned regularly or replaced, what TYPE of better spark plugs, etc.

But the start and stop thing is interesting. It seems I have lost mileage recently which is why I asked, but I also gained a teenage step daughter this year and my other two kids have me here and there all the time too. That may be the culprit right there. Jaunts around town!

DRAFTING, it helps a lot, stay about 3” – 5” from the rear bumper of the automobile you are drafting. It is good for “better” fuel mileage….

also, shorter trips and more cold starts will, of course, lower your mileage. if your driving mix now includes more in-town and shorter trips, it may expain your drop in mileage.

Synthetic oil. tonneau cover. For me, just changing to synthetic, I get a bout 1 - 2 mpg extra.
