Elec fans

I ordered electric fans and they should be here on Friday! Can't wait to dig into this.

I'll try to take some pics and post them.

I order them through the group buy on the ford truck world web site. They are from Troyer Perf for $354.

I got the dual 16" b/c I plan to trade my truck in this fall for one with a 4.6 or 5.4.

I've got the 4.2L. I already added a chip, intake and exhaust. I've recently been talked into getting the fans. Let me know how it works out.

I used a Flex-A-Lite 'Black Magic' fan. It's a single fan design, 'universal' fit. It was about $180 from Summit. Plenty of cooling power for the V6, IMO. I rarely tow but do live in a very hot area.

Installation was a bit of a PITA. The truck is much quieter when the fan is not running. I did not feel much power increase, but there must be some as that stock fan is a heavy thing to be spinning. Mileage seemed to increase at least 0.5 mpg, but it's hard to say for sure.

Has anyone with the electric fans noticed in difference in cooling, as in keeping the motor cooler, or not as cool?

My temp gauge stays the same as it always did, right in the middle. It is possible that our temp gauges are like our oil pressure gauges. For those who don't know, our oil pressure 'gauges' are really more like idiot ights - they stay right in the middle unless you have a major problem.

FWIW, the electric fan I put on has an adjustable **** so that you can change the temp the fan comes on at. Not sure of the cfm rating on the Black Magic (check the specs at Summit) but it's gotta be close to the 4.2 stocker.

If I was to ever get an electric fan for my 4.2 would it be just a single or double as I hear some talk about. Just a stock truck, maybe one day the Micro Tuner, but not much else.
