Cool question, help!

ok i found a respectable dealership that is gonna do a complete tranny fluid change for 125 bucks..

my problem is this ford dealership does not know about synthetic tranny fluid either (starting to get worried) seems like nobody out here knows what I'm talking about..

I have a automatic v6 4.2 f150 xlt.. what do you guys recommend I pick up at the store?? The dealership obviously does'nt carry any synthetic fluids besides mobil 1 for the engine..

can you guys give me some advice?

Patrick,

I don't know which full synthetic trans fluids are compatible with your trans (meet Ford specs). The Ford Mercon V is a synthetic blend used on the '99 F150 models and later. From what I understand you can upgrade to this fluid for trans using Mercon III.

Why don't you request the dealer to use this trans fluid? Ask them to be sure.

You have a 4R70W transmission which requires a fluid meeting MERCON V specs. The Motorcraft fluid your dealer is likely to have is a synthetic blend.

If you do buy a different fluid make sure it says MERCON V.

MERCON V is a replacement for some, but not all applications using MERCON. For ecample, the E4OD and 4R100 used in some F150s cannot use MERCON V.

patrickjp - From what I've read Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid is supposed to be one of the best around and compatible with all Ford transmissions. I plan to drain mine soon and put the Amsoil in. I already use Amsoil 0W30 in my 4.6 and have not had any problems or used any at all (50K. You might look up Amsoil on the net at Amsoil.com and it will describe their products including tranny fluid. Good luck
