Question Transmission Troubles

Need the sound advice of F150 gurus. I recently bought a used Ford F150, XL V6 automatic, that had only 34,500 miles. After having the truck for only four months and putting an additional 8,000 miles, the transmission went out. The transmission is automatic. The previous owner suspected he had an electrical problem. Specifically, the fuse that controls the odometer frequently blew.

Here are my questions:

1) Can an electrical system cause or contribute to transmission problems?

2) Is it unusual for the transmission to go completely out after only 44,000 miles?
