help re. driving in O.D.???
WOULD IT HURT TO DRIVE EVERYDAY WITH THE OD SWITCH OFF...I MEAN I NORMALLY DRIVE STOP AND GO TRAFIC AND SOME HIGHWAY AND THEN STOP AND GO AGAIN..I DONT WANT MY TRANNY TO HUNT BETWEEN 3 AND 4TH..SO IS IT OK TO DRIVE all the time with out the OD FUNCTIONING??
This does not hurt your engine or trans at low speeds. When you drive highway speeds or any time 3rd gear begins higher RPM's it's time to use OD 4th gear. If you do this and don't use OD 4th when appropriate, you will create more engine wear and bad gas mileage.

No It wont hurt your transmission to drive with the OD turn off when driving in the city but if you do any highway driving you would want to turn the OD on first it is easer on the engine and the pocket book as will you will get better gas milage when in over drive .

I always turn my OD off in the city. My truck (and all similar trucks I would think) shifts into OD at around 40 mph (give or take a bit). The speed limit here in the city is anywhere between 30-40 mph so I usually wouldn't need it on anyway. Anywhere in town that requires a speed greater than that is usually on a fair grade so the OD would be off anyway. I only use it when on the hwy on flat to moderate grades (I turn off on the hwy when going up a long steep grade . . . less tranny shifting . . . less wear . . . less annoyance from constant up and down shifting).
My owners manual actually suggests having the OD off whenever the tranny is constantly upshifting and downshifting out of OD . . . city driving, steep grades or towing heavy loads on certain grades.
