I think it was 89 to 97 model years, and there are several different transfer cases used.

A common T-case was the Borg Warner 1356 (electrically shifted). The manually shifted version of that T-case I believe was called the 1345. Both had a gear reduction of 2.69 in 4LO.

Indyfan,
It's not really an E4OD, it's a 4R100, the same basic transmission, different name. I work where they make them, and the name changed a few years ago.

I've heard this before, however, when I ordered it from fleet sales we used the code for the E4OD and I specifically asked the dealer if that's what I was getting and he said "yes, because it's a California truck."
Now, did the factory put in 4r100's despite what was ordered and can I tell from the ID plate on the door exactly what's in there?
It's good to have people on the inside...

We quit making the E4OD in 1997, there ain't no such animal anymore, but really the box is the same, only the name changed. The department where they're made is still called E4OD in the plant even, but the Transmission is called the 4R100, Ford just changed the nomanclture as part of Ford 2000, the same is true of the AOD, the changed the name to 4R70W, but it's the same box. The only changes are not any more than the difference between any model year and the next.
The dealer is clueless, trust me.
The last E4OD was built in june of 1996, and in July we came back from vacation and started making 4R100's, same box, differnt name. No way to tell from the code, it's the same code. If it's a 97 or newer, 4R100.

I just re-read that and I kinda think I was being kinda snooty, or at least it reads that way, sorry, it's not what what I meant to do. Except for the part about the dealer being clueless, a lot of them are and need to be told that they are.

(some of them are great though, I love mine, King's Ford in Cincinnati)
