Question Transmission Coolers

Just a quick question. Is it more important to have a transmission cooler or a heavy duty radiator for towing situations?

I ask only because I have an aftermarket class III hitch on my truck, and I don't really tow anything too heavy. But, should I change my habits I'm curious to know if I can simply install a tranny cooler and not worry about it, or if I should avoid heavy loads without having a heavy duty radiator as well?

Thanks,
Mike

I believe the tranny cooler is more important because you will be warned by guage and light if the rad can't keep up but if the tranny overheats, you won't know it until the damage is done.

I vote for the tranny cooler as you already realy have a HD Radiator in these trucks and if you have the Triton, they are overheat proof by design and will even shut down before they will over heat. That is what the "Triton" is all about.

cphillip, I agree - and even endorse a tranny temp gauge. That way, no matter what situation you're in, you always have a reading what condition the transmission is in. These gauges (with hardware) run between $20-$70. Pretty inexpensive insurance.
