Is the noise at 2,700 rpm? Mine too! Different tranny though so I'm not sure if it is the same or not. Just started noticing mine a few thousand miles ago.

Question Transmission Whistle ?

I have a whistling sound coming from my auto-transmission when at about have trottle shifting from 2nd-3rd gear. It goes away after the gear change, But when the tranmission downshifts at a specific trottle/gear if whistles again. It's an on & off type whistle, almost like something is slipping but I can't feel anything slipping. I took it to the dealer and they heard the noise but could not identify the source. I have 33k miles on the truck and warranty runs out in 3k. Any suggestions ?

I have a whistle at about the 1700 rpm range. If you hold the throttle at that range it stays. Accelerate and it goes away. It doesn't seem to hurt performance or anything, it is just anoying. By the way, mine is a 5.4 Thanks for the help.

I had a whistle from the transmission in my 97 Explorer. When I was stopped and in gear it would whistle, but I soon as I hit the gas it would go away. Dealer said it was some sort of loose plate in the tranny and they fixed it for $240. I found a TSB on it at "alldata.com". They list all the TSB's for any car or truck for about the last 20 years. Hope this helps.
