Compression Braking???????
Compression Braking???????
My 2002 has the 4R70 Trans. Can anyone explain what Ford had in mind with the delay that occurs when you let off the gas until you feel full compression braking?
I regularly drive a winding mountain road and on the downhill run I take it out of OD so as not to have to brake for each turn. Each time I let off the gas, there is a three second delay before I feel the full braking effect. I don't have to accellerate, just barely touch the gas and almost all of the compression braking goes away for three seconds, damned annoying. It's like the throttle stays slightly open, then after three seconds, it fully closes.
I am sure it has something to do with the LEV rating on these trucks but can it be modified to .1 second or removed entirely?

What you are feeling is the fuel shutting off.
The throttle plate closes when your foot comes off the pedal. You get engine braking, but when the fuel is turned off you get more. It's all in the prgramming. I'm sure there is a reason for the delay, but I don't know what that reason would be.
If you can modify the programming you can change this. I do know that a Ford dealer will not be able to change it for you.
