Towing

Does the new F-150, 5.4L, with towing package comes with the Trans cooler and oil cooler? Do I need to add any other coolers for maximum towing?

Sorry wengerda, your manual should have the items included in the tow package. It's the tranny cooler and PS cooler among other things. Look at the manual. I know that you can upgrade the tranny cooler but I am not sure how weak the factory one is. I'm sure someone else more knowledgabe will reply soon.

wengerda, the towing package comes with a tranmission oil cooler. The package 'used' to have an oversized radiator but, no more. Ford determined that the 5.4L standard radiator would do the job and stopped including the oversized with the towing package. Problem was for some time their advertising verbage indicated buyers were still getting the larger radiator when they weren't. Much complaining about 'not getting what I paid for' caused Ford to offer a voucher for $100 cash or swap the radiator, until such time as they changed their ad. I think this ended some time during the '01 model year.
You could get an oversized radiator for your truck but, Ford says you don't need it.

I can't think of anything else that needs to be 'cooled' when towing except for the engine, transmission and the beer.

Thank you very much for all the information. I( feel better now, I only tow a 21 foot pontoon boat, total weight 3000lbs. What I have right now should do the job.

Good luck with your truck and it should have the trans cooler in it with the tow package.

Trans cooler

wengerda; if your worried about your tranny heat why not install a temp gauge??? Summit racing.com has a nice setup for your truck, give them a try. I live in hilly western Pa. and had the same worrys. Installed one and what cooler that came with my trucks towing package was doing the job. I hope in some small way this will calm your worries......Oldgray
