What's the difference in all these Trannys?

The 4R70W, 4R100, E40D? What's the difference in all these? Is one a heavy service, light service, etc?

The 4R70W is a lighter service transmission than the E4OD and 4R100. The 4R70W is used in engines as large as the 5.4L 2 valve.

The E4OD was used in some smaller engines, and all of the larger engines, including the 460 and the diesels.

In 1998 the 4R100 replaced the E4OD. The 4R100 is basically an upgraded E4OD. Many parts were strengthed to handle the higher output of the newer diesels.
