Wink rpm's....

Clem I had already thought of that and laughed, then got pissed again...lol...

hmustang...I am glad it went back together too, with out too much damage from my wallet..

And Andreir, I was running about 4100 on the tach in O/D, I wish I new exactly how fast I was going with the gears and the 265/70/16's....If anyone knows please tell me..

(Neal I guess now I under estimated my speed...lol)

Well tonight I sped up past 100 and got that hum again, it never did before the firestones were put on the rear...so I am thinking that to dealer pull off's that were 20 dollars a piece are just pieces of sh*t..I am saving for better tires that will not feel like they will self destruct..lol

Good thing Firestone does'nt make condoms...there would be lots more babies...lol

take care all

Post It's amazing to me that no one read the posts about this a few months ago.

Ford is attempting to limit liability by phrasing it "Extended high speed operation", but it really only takes a few seconds above 85MPH to damage the bushing and seal. I also think that the only reason we have a TSB is because the Police model Crown Victoria's with the 4R70W were dumping their transmission fluid during emergency responses.

Driveline/Extension Housing - Vibration/Leaks
Article No.

^ VIBRATION - FROM DRIVELINE - 4X2 VEHICLES
WITH 4R70W AND 139 INCH WHEELBASE

^ TRANSMISSION - 4R7OW - FLUID LEAK FROM
EXTENSION HOUSING SEAL - 4X2 VEHICLES WITH
139 INCH WHEELBASE

FORD:
1997-2000 F-150, F-250 LD

This article is being republished to update the model year coverage and to update the part application.

ISSUE
A driveline vibration and/or a transmission fluid leak from the extension housing seal area may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by the extension housing bushing or seal walking/spinning out due to excess driveshaft flexing during extended high speed operation.

ACTION
Inspect the extension housing bushing and seal. If the extension bushing/seal is spun and/or walked out, replace the extension housing assembly and gasket with new service parts, and replace the driveshaft with a revised 127 mm (5") diameter driveshaft. In addition, some vehicles will require the balance marks on the driveshaft, output shaft, and rear axle flange to be aligned so a repeat condition will not occur.

Part #'s::

A driveshaft/Transmission shop should charge just one hour for labor to replace the driveshaft.

On the other hand; I would love to try and get Ford to pay for this since they had installed, at the factory, a driveshaft that was too small to begin with.

Question Driveshaft..

AjRagno,

What are the option of sizes for the driveshafts, is the other one smaller then the 127 mm or is it bigger, because I have the 127 mm driveshaft, (5"). So I wonder what if the driveshaft I have could unbalance it self...if so then maybe I just need to take it back off and go to a driveshaft shop and have them check it for balance....could this sound like a posibility....or what else would make my truck vibriate like that at 90 and then stop at 97-100.

I wonder if I threw a weight on one of the rims, would this make a vibration like this one....ahh hell, I just want to get over 100 safely...Thanks again AjRagno

It's interesting. I don't know if they make a driveshaft larger than 5". I don't know if aluminum or steel would make a difference either. The 5" driveshaft is the one they are supposed to be replaced with but they may also add some balancing rings.

If you have a good service advisor, you may want to call and see what he/she has to say after you explain what happened.

I know that Neal went through this a few years ago and Deacon had this happen to his Harley Davidson addition and in his case the extention housing actually exploded, looked like it was hit with a sledge hammer.

I don't know how to solve your problem. I had the TSB so I wanted to bring it to your attention.

Unhappy Not 112 anymore....

AjRagno,

Well I dont drive 112 anymore, I just go from stop to 85 real fast...lol..When I get some free time I am planning to take the driveshaft to a shop, hopefully it is just unbalanced...or I wonder if the slung seal in the tailhousing could of caused the insides of the tranny to go out..I sure hope not..

I will know before too long..
