1999 Rear output seal
1999 Rear output seal
I have a 99 4.2L and I noticed my rear output seal was leaking. I was trying to find the part but noticed there are 2 options one with a long boot and one with a short boot. So my question is, is there a way to know which one I need without tearing it apart? I don't have the owners manual either btw. Thanks for the help yall.
Yea the Rear output Seal on the backend of the transmission where the driveshaft is at. It is leaking heavily so I am pretty sure it is bad. but I have called an verified both are available, I would just rather not buy one unless I know which one I need. but I tried google and it failed me for once and I couldn't find any posts on here. Do I just need to tear it apart to figure it out?
I think so, unless a Ford dealer can research it with your VIN. Just buy both and make sure you can return the one you don't use. They aren't that expensive. When you pull the driveshaft, check the yoke for burrs or damage that could be eating the seal.
