Transmission diffrences/will it work

Hello community! I have recently had a transmission give out on me in my 2001 Ford F-150 4.6L V8 triton. My mechanic said tenths type of transmission I need is a 4R70W. I have found one but the problem is it came out of a 2wd and my truck is a 4wd. Would the 2wd work for my truck or not? All the best.

Nope, it has to be out of a 2wd. The tailshafts are completely different.

Direct swap: 4R70W out of a 2001-2003 2wd F150 or Expedition with a 4.6 or 5.4.

He meant it has to come out of a 4x4, since your truck is a 4x4.

Sorry, I got it backwards!

Direct swap: 4R70W out of a 2001-2003 4wd F150 or Expedition with a 4.6 or 5.4.
